maiq the liar Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Now, i'm thinking about making a moonbase line in LDD, but i'm new to the idea. i understand it's modular, but is there a "so you've decided to make a moonbase" guides out there? and what are the standards for building and tunnel width? Quote
steelharbingerofdeath Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 This is the origional and universal moonbase guide: http://www.zemi.net/moonbase/ enjoy and good luck. Steel... Quote
maiq the liar Posted July 6, 2008 Author Posted July 6, 2008 (edited) arg...i tried to design something to that standard...it ended up being blocky and i had to scale it down to 16x16 to keep it in a purchasable range...I was never very good at building spaceships or moonbases anyway...i'm just terrible at capturing that "futuristic" look. ...Jeez. now i've gone and depressed myself. AgentRick Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I was thinking about doing something like this as well, although on a 32x32 square. Thanks for the link. Quote
xenologer Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Nothing wrong with having the building be small, just have a long connecting tube that reaches to the edge of the 48*48 region, leave the rest of the space as... moonrover parking gotta have moonrovers Well I've been having the same sorta issue myself lately, since I normally make vehicles, and havent ever tried a building; having a tough time figuring out walls that look interesting... snefroe Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 well some of the bases are mobile, so you don't have to stick to a base. but yeah, it's not so easy to construct something really good looking and original... i haven't built a space base since i was 12 i think... they're just so .... boring... Quote
SuvieD Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Moonbase implies no oxygen or gravity and must therefore be enclosed. I suugest thinking in terms of terraformed planets or colonized earth-like planets/moons instead. That way you gt to build what you want the way you want without all the restrictions of the moonbase idea. The LDD palette is very limited anyway, I think you are looking to make something with so few options you just need to open it up a bit. I have found that dumping out a bucket of parts is better for inspiration anyway. Quote
Lokix Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 The moonbase standard is pretty good but when I started trying to use it I found everything became a bit boxy also so I stopped trying to build the connections into the main module. I started building a simple crossroads module and the place the module I wanted above this. This gave the added benefit of having a lot of supports which gave it more of a metal structure feel. I created a good few using LDraw and rendered them with POV ray tracer. Moonbase The pictures are posted here. Quote
