Captain Zuloo Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 If this ship has sails. how will you make them? Yeesh, I didn't think of that. I think he'll need bed sheets for them! Quote
Teddy Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Thanks everybody, for the nice replies. As for the number of bricks, I have no clue really. I lost count somewhere. I'm well above 10.000 that's for sure, but after that I didn't botter counting. As for the sails; yes maybe I might cut up my bed sheets as I did when I was younger to make sails. I've made detailed drawings of the "side" pannels of the stern. As I want to continue the same style of tiling all the way up. And I made a testversion to see if the lines flow smoothly from the brown (copper plating) to the black planking. I still have to make changes to the color scheme of the test version, closer to the original. Since, the black line is thickening towards the front and back of the ship. But in the testversion, I've put it equal everywhere just for now. To see how the colors and lines will work. I might make some photos later today to give some idea of my plans and building process. Kind regards, Teddy Quote
Teddy Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 (edited) Dear all, I've made some photos of the test segments. I've changed the color scheme to the appropriate one. In effect make the lower black band expand towards the stern. Well, here are the photos of the test pieces. Kind regards, Teddy Edited February 26, 2009 by Teddy Quote
Ryan_T Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Hey Teddy, If you were to take this monster ship to a LEGO show or something. How would you do it? Would it need to come in sections? Where you can take the hull off the deck? etc. that might be something to think about to... Unless you are going to take it apart when your finished with it. Quote
Errorist Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Teddy the work you're doing is phenomenal. It's not hard to believe it already took you three years. Just make sure she's ready before Legoworld 2010 so we can own the place The test version is looking good so far but I'm wondering how you're planning to incorporate the gunports. I'm sure you'll come up with something though Keep up the good work Teddy. Errorist Quote
Asuka Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 A sensational project, most impressive and wonderful! The beautiful hull and the very detailed interior´re indeed amazing signs of things to come... Quote
Buttons Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Looking superb so far Teddy To add to the questions about shows and stuff I think it would be a good idea to try and get yours and CGH's completed ships together at one show. Now that would be spectacular! Quote
pr0visorak Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I wish you good luck! Its excellent so far andd congrats on making the front page! Quote
Ratshot Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 THAT IS ONE KICK BUT HULL. Cant wait for the finishing results. Quote
El Bucanero Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 My little sister could sleep in that. Nice job Teddy! I love the details of the decks, if you keep it up like this it will be one stunning beauty. Quote
Teddy Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Dear all, thanks for all the nice replies! Hey Teddy, If you were to take this monster ship to a LEGO show or something. How would you do it? Would it need to come in sections? Where you can take the hull off the deck? etc. that might be something to think about to... Unless you are going to take it apart when your finished with it. Hey Davy_Blocks, I'm my design, the hull under the water line is one piece to give the ship some strength. The orlop deck is made in sections which can be lifted from the hull under the waterline to gove access to the hold and rooms such as the filling room. The decks above the waterline will be made modular, front middle back. To give access to the different decks. The splitting will not be done allong straight lines, but will waver a bit as will fit the interior and rigging best. Hopefully this answers your question a bit? But I will use both types, as you an Bonaparte advised me to, to get them as close to the original as possible. I've been redesigning the back side of the stern and looking into possibilities to smoothen the line of the color change from black to yellow. I've finalized the designes on paper. Hopefully I'll find some time this week to make a new test version. P.S. How is the progress of your ship? Do you have some updates, photos? A sensational project, most impressive and wonderful! Now that would be spectacular! Dear Buttons, Me, CGH and Errorist were planning to show our ships at Lego world Zwolle together. But the most realistic date will be Lego world 2010. Actually a while ago CGH visted me at home to discuss our ships when he was on his way to Errorist. I wish you good luck! Its excellent so far andd congrats on making the front page! Dear pr0visorak, thanks for the compliment. CGH was so nice to put me on the front page. THAT IS ONE KICK BUT HULL. Cant wait for the finishing results. Thanks Broadside, I will do my best to finish it as soon as possible. My little sister could sleep in that. Nice job Teddy! I love the details of the decks, if you keep it up like this it will be one stunning beauty. Thanks for the compliment Mr Tiber, the beast is indeed getting large for a Lego MOC. The detailing takes some additional time and attention, but adds a lot to the looks in real life. Kind regards, Teddy Quote

Ah that's not exactly what I meant but that post was a mistake on my part. I was referring to the line which the guns will follow vs. the exterior lines of the ship. This model will show you what I mean much better than I can explain it though. You can see what I mean by looking at the lowest battery. But this hasn't been done on HMS Victory though. So it was my mistake As for my ship, I'm happy to report that she is still under construction. So construction hasn't stopped As for the updates well.... I'm currently developing something which is a bit of a surprise. Visiting Portsmouth last summer made me change my mind about a few things I wanted to do with my ship and of course I started implementing these rather big changes when I got back home. However progress is slow due to being short on time with school and all of that stuff. I should have some pictures in the "near" future but right now it's impossible for me to tell when they will be coming Errorist Quote

Here is update number 3 and 4 of the test piece: Version 3: The new test version as made from the new design: And a close-up of the new test version: Any feedback is welcome. Captain Zuloo Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Half stud steps? Teddy, you have too much LEGO and way too much skill! This is seriously brilliant. I'm thinking when this is done, it can occupy the Classic-Pirates.com frontpage for a week at least! A day is too short for this baby! Teddy, you rock! Quote
Dwarfinator Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Wha... the... and the... and that... and... what... It's amazing! I don't know where to begin... and it not even finished yet! I don't think I could afford to do all this. The hold looks excellent, I love all the barrels. Wow... I think it's safe to say this is one of the biggest ship MOCs ever. Quote

Dwarfinator Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Now, wait, witch HMS Victory are you making? Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted May 25, 2009 Eurobricks Emperor Posted May 25, 2009 Now, wait, witch HMS Victory are you making? According to me he's making the "new" HMS Victory, the one launched in 1765, most famous as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar. The "old" HMS Victory was launched on 23 February 1737 and sunk October 1744. An artist impression of how the old victory could have looked: Quote
