42114 volvo kit (sorry!)

Realise I'm far from the first person to have problems with this kit, and judging by some of the responses, I'm also opening myself to some facepalmers 😂

So. I've now rebuilt 3 times. I'm not technically minded, but I get the gist of most of it. 

Where I'm at right now... Is that on configuring the controller, everything seems to work, apart from gear 1 in either direction. It does nothing. 

I suspect this should actually be gear 3, but not 100% on that. 

I also kkow that my problem is likely to be found on page 31 of the manual. 

I've triple checked my set up on each rebuild, but as far as I can see, it matches the page (and the digital version also, just to be safe). 

Can someone help me by sending a photo of their three gear selector positions when the gearbox is in 1st / 3rd so I can compare? 

I've looked, and nothing is selected at this point on mine, and I just don't know what should be engaged to fix it. 

Help! :-) 

 

Please try not to be unhelpful, granted, I'm not an engineering mastermind, but I've built some fairly complex kits before and enjoy the challenge... This seems the simplest, but it's took me the most rebuilds, it's clearly human error, and I want to figure out what I've done wrong!!

Yeah, even tried installing the software on a few different devices as well in case it was a device issue 😂🙈

 

But yes, re calibrate after every build/tweak

I just made two gifs for the first and second gear. Maybe that helps already.

Blue: drive shaft after the gear box

Purple: gear switcher

Pink: driven gears of the gearbox depending on the selected gear

In the top picture, I can see that the gear selector is not engaged when the purple gear indicator is pointing outwards.

Are you able to identify in this way, the positions of all the gear selectors in the initial setup position?

I’m sure I’ve matched what’s in the book/digital guide, but I’m clearly missing something.

Got it... I rebuilt the gearbox side of things, after this gif led me to realise I'd missed a vital red gear which sat on the other end of the selector on the upper middle blue shaft as shown here (the gear in your gif is pink as per your colour coding, thanks!)

Thanks for your help - Finally have all gears and dumper working now.

Now onto the lighting kit :)
