kazamakarate Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Hey guys, Im modding my 42099 into a strong crawler with a wider body, wider axles, 2x buggy motors and a buwizz 3.0 battery. I also want to implement 4 wheel steering. A cool feature of the 42099 I want to keep is the axles which can twist independent from eachother. This makes a mechanical 4 wheel steering linkage not possible, so I want to build the 4 wheel steering by seperate motors on each axle (I think thats what they are doing here: BuWizz app tutorial - 4 wheel steering using Tracked Steer Module - YouTube). After connecting the buggy motors to the battery I have 1 power functions port left and 4 powered up ports for the steering motors. I have tried implementing PU L and XL motors, but the buwizz app can only succesfully calibrate 1 of the axles through the 'Center Steering' module. In the video the Buwizz guys use 2x servo motors with the 'Tracked Steering' module, but I can't find those servo motors anywhere. Only fake ones, which I tried and worked for a few minutes, after which I fried something inside the replica motor and it stopped working with smoke coming out . I'm starting to get a little bit desperate now so I think I need the help of this forum. I tried asking Buwizz, but I got some vague answers and feel like there's some translation error. Does anyone else have a solution as where to find servo motors or a different solution that would fit the needs of this MOC? Thank you in advance! Quote
Jayden Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 (edited) I have had successes by calibrating port 1 then hooking up port 2 and calibrating again then it knows the position of both motors. You could also try linear actuators for steering. You could also try brickcontroller2. Edited May 29, 2022 by Jayden Quote

I have got no experience with those. I tried brickcontroller2, it works but I find the functions the app provides for Buwizz very basic, 4 wheel steering works but it's really rough and I have to use 2 sliders to use the steering, which makes it not practical because then I have to fingers left for the acceleration slider. Unless I'm doing something wrong as Im also not experienced with brickcontroller2. :) Quote

That was a basic explanation but i can provide more details if needed 8 minutes ago, kazamakarate said: I tried brickcontroller2, it works but I find the functions the app provides for Buwizz very basic, 4 wheel steering works but it's really rough and I have to use 2 sliders to use the steering, which makes it not practical because then I have to fingers left for the acceleration slider. Jurss Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Servo motors are generally bad from start. Not the best option at all. Use some standard motors trough some gearing and clutches, if powered up is not an option. Quote

I tried hooking up the PU L for steering to port 1, calibrating it (works fine), then hooking up the 2nd motor to the 2nd port, but when I try to calibrate it it just calibrates the first port again. Am i doing something wrong here? Quote

Am i doing something wrong here? I am not sure, it sometimes works but i tried it quite a while ago with a very old iphone. You could calibrating the 2nd port first. You could try using the two motors hooked up to the same slider. this might come out soon too. maybe? hopefully? I think I tried all possible combinations. 2nd port first, different port combinations & orders etc. Both motors on the same slider doesn't work with the center steering module. The update looks promising, I'll look out for that. I just tried with the brickcontroller2 app, will try with a ps4 controller this week, I think that should be an improvement. Quote

PS can you please post some photos of your modded 4x4? Quote
