Piranha Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 (edited) Hello Everyone, while on vacation I stopped by the Pearlridge shopping in Oahu, Hawaii, which so happens there was Lego Sculptures on Display So i snapped some picture for your enjoyment. (They are more sculptures than MOCs with figs but are still very cool) They were all built by Lego Sculptor Nathan Sawaya The Solar System: Spider: Fallin: Swimmin: I have no idea : Aloha Pencil: Parthenon: personal favorite Enjoy Sorry if some are fuzzy there was a focus problem and sorry about the glare, its bright in there Edited June 28, 2008 by Piranha Quote
Dragonator Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Those are some awesome sculptures, and just look at the piece counts! He must have a lot of patience. Quote
Squeaker Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I heard about this on TBB. I am somewhat suprised you ran into them on accident! (You did, right?) Those are are all quite large. I especially like the solar system, although pluto has been removed as a planet since about a year ago! It is amazing how the Solar System and Aloha Pencil balance!... Sinner must be angry, Nathan seems to be using artificially created gravity! I found this rather annoying: Seen for the first time in Hawaii, ONLY in Pearlridge center. As if someone who is in the mall doesn't know where they are. It also sound kind of snobby somehow. Quote
iamded Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Whoa, those are awesome!! My favourites are Hanging on the Edge and Green. Out of curiosity, is this the same guy who made the sculpture of the yellow guy ripping himself open? Thanks Pirahna for taking these sweet pics. You're lucky to have seen them in person! ~Peace Quote
CP5670 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I've seen some of Sawaya's work before but this is amazing stuff, especially the planets and pencil. Does he use glue to keep them up like that? They're obviously balanced perfectly, but it seems that even a slight movement would knock them over. Even if they're hollow, they would still be quite heavy. I have no idea how he managed to make that swimming dude in two weeks though. It often takes me several months to complete my major projects, which are nowhere near as large or impressive. Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Excellent artwork! Wasn't he the guy who made a statue of Stephan Colbert? Quote
AgentRick Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Cool. On Tuesday, Nathan made a sculpture of the Trump Dubai hotel and had it displayed on Columbus Circle in New York. I went and droped by and looked, and it was a good TEN FEET TALL. I was pretty impressed. I took some pictures, but right now I can't upload them because I'm busy, so here's a pic from some website. Karto Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Thanks for the pics, now it is ALSO on Eurobricks. I like the green man... It reminds me of Mortal Kombat Quote
Mirandir Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Nathan Sawaya is the man! He is responsible for a lot of the cool Lego Art out there. Like the yellow man ripping himself up, the blue guy buildning himself from lego pieces, the Lego-iphone, the Master Chief bust as well as being one of the Lego Master Model Builders who built a life size Volvo XC90. And yes he always glues his sculptures. Quote
Eilif Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Thanks for putting this up. Nathan Sawaya continues to amaze. I passed up a chance to see his work in Dekalb (about an hour or so outside of Chicago) and I have been kicking myself ever since. Quote
AgentRick Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I just noticed If you look closely at the first picture of GREEN, you can see a sad face on the upper chest. :( Quote
Tom_castlefan Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Breathtaking, and seemingly able to defy gravity... Wish I had the same amount of grey bricks he does! Tom Quote
