Appie Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 (edited) I saw this contest yesterday and as it happens I just started working on a MOC that fits. It will have 4 motors: 2 for drive, 1 for lift and 1 for tilt. The colour scheme plan so far is white with yellow. Above the hub will be the cabine. I am also planning to make attachments that are easy to switch: bucket, forklift and blade (currently testing the forklift in the picture), so the little fella will have more to do than just hauling dirt. Without attachments it's less than 4000 cubic studs, with the biggest attachment it will be about 6500 cubic studs. Edited May 10, 2022 by Appie Quote
1gor Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 That could be very interesting. I'll follow this one with interest. Quote
GerritvdG Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Nice to cram all those RC-functions in such small model! It's going to be a nice contest ! Quote
Maaboo the Witch Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Looks cool! Excited to see where this goes. Quote
Appie Posted April 11, 2022 Author Posted April 11, 2022 Thanks all. Current situation: Finished the forklift setup and started working a bit on the bodywork. The grey axle sticking out on top will function as a way to turn on the hub so I can place a chair above the actual hub button. Next 2 things on agenda will be the loader attachment and trying to improve the position of the motor that handles the lifting which is currently sitting asymmetrical at the rear of the unit. At first I thought I would cover that part with bodywork anyway, but now I am not so sure. Quote
Philtech Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 That looks great so far. I will be interested to see what it looks like when it is finished. Quote

I'll see what I can do to extend the arms backwards while maintaining the angle over the tracks in lowered position (the LA following the same line as the tracks pleases me esthetically). I think due to the motors and gears, I won't be able to have the "dead space" (aka empty space above the bonnet) at the rear behind the cab and the mounting points of the arms like most real ones do. Appie Posted April 13, 2022 Author Posted April 13, 2022 Managed to put the connection point of the arm further back and up. This is also gave me the space to put the m-motor below it and an added bonus of 3 studs more elevation on the arm Also finished the bucket attachment, which was possible to make in a similar style as the forklift attachment. Appie Posted April 17, 2022 Author Posted April 17, 2022 The model is nearly finished. The light in the middle on top functions as a turn-on button for the hub. The MOC is also "Technic-fig compatible" Left to do: - Make an attachment for the blade - Make improvements based on feedback provided here - Make a video and some better photo's. Quote
SaperPL Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 Front looks really cool with the cab and technic fig. I'm wondering about the back - isn't there any way to fit those two motors for the arms in somehow more compact way? Same thing is bugging me in my model that I'd want to have the rear lower than the cab as in real life loaders, but the drive for tilt is cumbersome. Quote

I tried finding a way since Jurss mentioned it, but since it needs a wormgear for the tilt, which takes space to brace, the options became very limited. The only option I saw was to sacrifice the cab, which I chose not to. Of the 7 studs behind the "hub power button", 6 studs are the motors, of which the tilt motor is resting on the hub, so I can't lower it further. The lift motor is resting on the drive motor for one of the tracks, so also can't be lowered. Placing them horizontally would have meant sacrificing the cab or making the model longer to accommodate the gears. Quote
Appie Posted May 10, 2022 Author Posted May 10, 2022 Made a video and some pictures for the finished model Technic fig compatible :) The light on top of the cab functions as a Power ON button for the hub's button located below the seat. Three different attachments: loader, dozer and forklift attachments Easy access to replace batteries: Size of the model with the largest attachement is 7410 cubic studs (I rounded the height upwards to 19 studs, instead of using 18.5 studs). Thanks for watching Quote
jorgeopesi Posted May 10, 2022 Posted May 10, 2022 Very nice movement and travel of the arm, very playable, congratulations on a great MOC. Quote

Thirdwigg Posted May 11, 2022 Posted May 11, 2022 Great job finishing the build. It functions well, and I like the white and yellow. The proportions give it a 8235 feel, which is great. Quote
Maaboo the Witch Posted May 11, 2022 Posted May 11, 2022 Another model that uses the 42061 bucket. Hoping TLG see this and realize how many vehicles can use it. Quote
Appie Posted May 11, 2022 Author Posted May 11, 2022 Thanks everybody 4 hours ago, Thirdwigg said: The proportions give it a 8235 feel, which is great. Glad you like that as well. It was one of my favorite sets as a kid and couldn't help but think of it when I made this. Quote
