Anyone tried this? Some of us lament the old modular platform sections but these could be a good alternative. All we need would be a good way to do ramps.

They do have those ramp pieces included with the road plates. No where near as high as the decades old version but it's a start.

I haven't used the new road plates to create a platform section, but have used them for other builds. I did a seaport dock and hardened aircraft shelter out of them for The Great Brick War besides a road.

The plates are quite versatile and most likely can be used as ramps as well. They might need minor mods to do so. With the option of 8-wide and 16-wide pieces, you would have a good selection to work from. Besides, the lack of depth allows for customization of the support structure.

Nice. The more I think about it the more I can see road plates being great as a modular station system, better than the old platform baseplates: they come in two widths, can be built high level or low level, and can easily be integrated with standard components if non-standard configurations are desired (e.g. a foot subway entrance).

All that is needed would be a specialist piece to make building end ramps easy.

Then TLG could offer a platform pack with lights, seats, poster boards, ticket, food and drink machines and flower tubs.

It will be interesting to see whether the rumoured station this year cottons on to this. Will the platform be standard plates or road plates?

Yes, they are perfect as station platforms. We just need someone in TLG to realise that and find a good way to create the end ramps.

Couldn't you just make your own transition using brackets an cheese bricks? Simplest would be a 1x2 x 2x2 up bracket on the platform side with cheese bricks to transition to a tilted ramp. More aesthetic might be to use bricks or 1x6x5 panels to make the ramp and top it with cheese bricks, or you could build studs sideways for the ramp and use wedge plates or wedge bricks to make the smooth transitions on the ends of the ramp

I'm sure I can, but I'm also thinking in terms of Lego producing an attractive station platform pack with minifigures, luggage, trolleys, parcels, ticket machines, food vending machines, flower beds etc. etc.
