SaperPL Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 (edited) So after finishing my sport car model, I wanted to figure out if the chassis can be used for a truck as well, and it seems doable: The chassis is almost the same with the seat attachment area shaved down and with cab attachment points at the front: I figured out some pretty cool tricks including using the wheel arches as a front grill (so potentially a car model would be a B model of this model)... ... and angled wheel arch mounting with pin and ball pin on one side. The pin is pushing it up from the inside, the ball pin is holding it from going up. I don't have a holding mechanism for the cab yet, but I need to figure out what to do with the rest of the model because it's imply too light to hold the heavy cab angled I'm still not sure what to do with the HOG steering knob - should it be there or should it be transferred to the top of the cab when it's sitting in driving position? I feel like putting it on top may feel weird if the base is not heavy enough while staying at the middle of the chassis means attaching any trailer would mean no access to the steering. This having more parts, while still using most of the parts of the sports car model, could be an A model while the sport car being a B model could get some additional static pieces like dyno station for example with the panels and liftarms that were required in the truck. 2GodBDGlory Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Again, nice and clean! One thing that could be worth trying is having two HOG knobs; one on the back, and one on the top. The top one would be used with a trailer attached, since there would then be enough weight on the rear for it to work, while the bottom would be used when there is no trailer, because there is then access to it. Jurss Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 Good cabin design. Add 5th wheel/saddle for trailer, rear lights, bumper. Then already will be some counterweight for cabin. Also add some limiter for that cabin, so that in don't fall fully. Quote

SaperPL Posted March 31, 2022 Author Posted March 31, 2022 Cab tilt limit and steering knob on the cab done: Cab needs some mirrors and maybe I should see if I can cut down on the parts anywhere to reduce the weight if possible. After that the rest is the fifth wheel, rear bumper and lights, and maybe fenders if possible. Quote

johnnym Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Didn't notice this until now. Very cool evolution of your earlier car model. I especially like(d) the front axle construction. For the steering knob, my proposal would have been what 8436 used, but you came to a similar and even better integrated solution on your own. I needed a while to figure out, how the towball "secures" the side wheel arches in place, because I thought its pin side would stick in the wheel arches but it does not - cool solution! Quote

Ric079 Posted June 6, 2022 Posted June 6, 2022 Really enjoyed building this model - so many clever ideas. Alas, I then built the Mini RC trailer for it without looking at the dimensions - total misfit, my bad. Did you create a trailer for this one by any chance. Quote

Wow, I didn't think about that because there were links to the RC model there, but I didn't think about specifying size/scale. I didn't make the trailer design for it. Quote
Ric079 Posted June 9, 2022 Posted June 9, 2022 No problem - expanded the RC trailer with a few adjustments and now it fits nicely. Quote
