The latest in my All-Star EF project, the Sentry.

For those of you not familiar with the project, ASEF, here's what I posted in the first entry:

Now, I'm an EF fan, and I really like this years (sadly, last) sets. I also liked the first year of sets, and while they weren't perhaps amazing mechs, they're no worse than I can do, as a non-mech builder. But I felt that some of the designs could be improved nonetheless. I decided that rather than simply MOD them as I do with my most of other sets, I'd rebuild them putting my own stamp on them.

And so All-Star EF was born.

The project was so named because DC has recently had All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder and All-Star Superman, bold new interpretations of our favourite heroes (in Batman's case, very bold). And since that was essentially what I wanted to do with EF, then I decided to borrow the name.

These are my versions of EF sets, that evoke the original official model, but also provide a more practical, more 'cool' version. I only hope you like them.

Sentry

Okay, so having already All-Star-ified Uplink and Gate Defender, I decided to tackle Sentry next. I wanted something that looked a little bit flimsy and expendible. The Sentry makes up the bulk of the robot army, so they'd want something that's easy to produce in large numbers, and doesn't use too many resources. With that, I decided to use the basic skeleton I used on my Gate Defender. Whereas there the thin design looked right as the mech is one built for fast, manouverable flgiht, here it looks a bit flimsy.

Once again my photography area leaves something to be desired, and there's a lack of good lighting.

It all looks a bit cobbled together. In a uniformed way, but cobbled together nonetheless.

As with the others, numerous aspects of the original were retained on the AS model. The feet, leg armour, shoulder pads, control levers, missiles and gun are all carried over to here.

This really highlights the similarities between the original version and my new version:

I think this is probably my least favourite of the AS models I've made so far, but that's just me. Hope you liked it though.

I think that the sholder plate on the robot is to close to each other.

Perhaps. But I couldn't find a way of attaching them that I preferred, so I left them as is. Personally, I think they make the mech look more armoured than it actually is.

Very nice. Though it's your least favourite it is still very good. I really respect that you've kept the "surplus unit" look of it, a mass produced vehicle. I think it is a little too tall, but overall a vast improvement while still retaining the cool traits of the original, looking forward to the next one!

Cheers BB2.

I think it is a little too tall

It is, yeah. But like I said, it looks flimsy and cheap. In context, that is.

looking forward to the next one!

You should, it's very cool.
