Oh my goodness! These layouts are amazingly big! :oh: How big is your attic in square metres? If you build these layouts, is there still enough room for additional LEGO?

So you have lots of 12V and 9V rail material. Isn't it difficult to have two different systems? I'd also love to have 9V and 12V trains, but the production of 9V sets has ended, so it's already getting expensive to buy material for that system. The production of 12V sets ended in 1990. Must be quite expensive to get material for a layout expansion for the 12V system.

Nice layout, why are you no longer using the monorail? Did you sell it ?

I too use 9v and 12v together. Both systems have advantages and disadvantages. rails can still be bought cheaply for both systems. Buts 12v motors and stop signals can b very expensive. I just got trainset 4511 for €39,98 and 4512 for €79,98 these are the last two 9v trainsets and can be found cheaply if you look good enough

Exactly, I meant motors when I wrote that some 9V/12V stuff can be expensive. I bought 4512 for 120€; it was MISB. And I got 4511 at Christmas. It was bought by my parents, brother and sister for 99€. It was brand new as well. But the older a set, the dearer it is. Even used 12V train sets reach high prices on eBay.

Did you buy your 4511 and 4512 as used items or were they new?

I know those 12v motors aren't for sale anymore. That's why I learned myself to fix 12v motors.

Tracks can be cheap, if you're lucky. Signs, remote controlled points, etc are expensive. But this collection is is form 4 years collecting.

My new layout will be a mix of 12v, 9v and monorail. Starwars will be present also, cause I like that too much  .

Today, a windowroof is placed in my attic. Finally some daylight there, out of my dark ages finally  . When you click at pic's, you can follow the buildingproces. Some final things and there can be build there  .......

And the dark ages were like this:

I've already started to build up my layout:

c_-_agin_the_temoprary_building_corner.jpg

While building, the first desgin had to be adjusted. I made a re-design, which made a more room for baseplates. In the is way, trains are less dominated in the layout. What's your opnion of it?

Those crosses I used, to look how many 32x32 basplates would fit in these layout. Roads, buildings & trainstations need to get a place in time. I'm busy to build everything up and will keep placing pic's if you people want.

I don't know any suggestions, but the roofwindow is a nice idea. If you post pics later when you have build more city. I will look the pics.

In that area with the 3x3 square of + plates, perhaps you could make a U shape.

Well an u-shape is a really nice idea, but I have loads of buildings te be placed. Pic's say more than 1000 words:

I know, it's a bit messy around. In time it will be more sorted ;) .

Hi Panda,

Very nice lay-out you have thought out, and construction is looking good!

One question: Do you have an updated lay-out where the cross-roads are replaced by the actual roads? Or do you build "on the fly"?

Keep the pics going... I like seeing your development :)

thank you

Time for a new update. I've ordered set 10185  ...... Otherwise I still think something is missing here  :

d_-_right_view_-2.jpg

Cause, space is rare at my attic........I've combined sets 6371, 1254 & 1255. What you think about this transformation?

It isn't still finished yet. I miss some 1x1 darkbluishgrey tiles.

I hadn't checked this thread in a while. I like the complexity of your track plan, but I must say that I am more impressed with the new less-train-dominated layout. However, I'm not sure you really took into account the kind of jealousy that would be stirred up by showing your impressive collection of road plates.

Definately looking forward to seeing the final result.

This is one of the most detailed layouts I've seen, but one sugestion to make it better. I would try putting Cafe Corner in a corner, even if its at one of the intersections. I think this would make a great layout look even better. :classic:
