jp-30 Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 (edited) Did this MOC as a break yesterday from working on another kiwi artwork recreation, while I wait for some BL orders to arrive. Thought it would be a quick simple build, but it was not. First version had the tiles on different layers. Then I rebuilt the structure to allow for the under-layer. Then I noticed my reference pic was just a portion of the full design. Then after I rebuilt it at full size, I realised Walters didn't adhere to a nice vertical grid. So I moved 2 rows to a 1/2 stud offset. That required rebuilding the whole support, and re-thinking the frame to hide the offset gap. Pretty much an all-day build. Quote Gordon Walters (1919-1995) was a Wellington-born artist and graphic designer who is significant to New Zealand culture due to his representation of New Zealand in his Modern Abstract artworks (wikipedia) https://www.art-newzealand.com/Issues1to40/walters.htm More including ref pic on my flickr feed.
