Back to building, where to start?

Hi,

so after almost 10 years I unpacked all my old lego sets and started making creations again..feels like back to the roots. I will try to post some MOC, primary Technic in near future.

But where to start? So much has changed, lego got all the new pieces, new mechanics, power functions and things I do not know how to even use. (My newest sets are 8043, 8053).

Is there an affordable lego technic set, where most of new pieces are used, so I can get hand on them and see how and where they are used in builds?

And is there a site where I can buy lego pieces in bulk?
