ks6349 Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Last time, my Lego box was covered with some dust, I wiped it with a damp cloth which was wrung well so it was just.. damp. But one of the edge was damaged, a piece of paper fell off. How do you wipe the dust off? Quote
MAB Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 If you don't want to get the box wet then use a DRY cloth instead. Quote
Driver Brandon Grumman Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 You mean the container where I keep my Lego supplies? I usually wipe that down with a disinfectant wipe. Quote
Stuartn Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 (edited) I don't think a damp cloth should damage a box, unless the box is damaged, so be sure to cut an sticky tape and separate the cardboard flaps with a knife when opening, and wipe towards the edges, so the exposed cardboard isn't dampened. If the box is unopened, same principle should apply Otherwise, a dry cloth should work, or a vacuum cleaner Edited September 8, 2021 by Stuartn Quote

I mean original Lego box, not a plastic container Quote

Just a dry cloth or duster should do the trick. If there's a large amount of built-up dust, a vacuum cleaner with a proper dusting (very soft brush) attachment would work. Quote
Darkdragon Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 For a Lego set box I use a microfiber cloth, dry. The fibers will pick up the dust. Alternatively you can use something like a "swiffer" duster. Quote
Johnny1360 Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 I have always just used a damp sponge, with no issues whatsoever. Not so damp as to leave moisture on the box of course. I also find it is a good idea to keep boxed sets inside of the bag it comes in too, then the box doesn't even get dusty. Quote

Lego's bag is a loose yellow paper bag that has little use against dust I put my boxed set in a paper bag for storage but in less than two months it was filled with a good thin layer of dust already. Johnny1360 Posted September 9, 2021 Posted September 9, 2021 Most ot mine are in the older plastic bags but the paper ones work just as well. I fold them over and put a very small piece of blue painters tape on it to keep it closed. Think of a wrapped Christmas present, the blue tape is made for easy release with minimal damage to the bag. ks6349 Posted September 10, 2021 Author Posted September 10, 2021 (edited) At the moment I am using this thin plastic wrap to wrap my boxed sets but the problem is it is VERY sticky and not easy to handle.... I thought about using paper but I won't be able to look at the sets Any alternatives? As I found that it is not good to clean the box with damp cloth so wrapping them is the only option to reduce dust building up and better cleaning Edited September 10, 2021 by ks6349 Quote
