zumaidi Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 (edited) Do you still own the rubber Caterpillar track? Well, don't throw it away. You can make it as wheels for robot like WALL-E or other vehicles. Check out this - https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-78205/zumaidi/wall-e-wheels/#details Edited July 1, 2021 by zumaidi Edit spelling Quote
Gray Gear Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Okay... What you are saying is true, dont throw away a LEGO piece that are still usable, but that message is true for almost any LEGO brick. To sum it up, I don't get the point of this thread Quote
pleegwat Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 My first thought seeing this was "Don't I own a set which motor-drives these?" Well yes indeed. 8539. The hubs have pinholes, but can be driven by putting a 16z gear inside them. Quote
caiman0637 Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Didn't they make these until '05? I wouldn't call that "old"... Quote

Yeah, but I know several people that considered this part - the Caterpillar rubber as useless and planning to discard it or already did it. This is based on feedback from my MOC on Rebrickable. One of the reasons, the rubber part become too stiff/hard compared to the new non rubber track tread. And other reason is that the length is fixed. Also when used, it tends to 'jerk' not smooth for every one cycle. Comparing between rubber and non rubber. Rubber - https://youtu.be/ehSa5qMM9CINon rubber - https://youtu.be/nLizLhJ7S6k Quote

I think these appeared in 2011 in Ninjago sets and in red in 2013 in Ninjago sets as well, though I am not sure if they are the same part exactly Quote
mic8per_ Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 These are still usefull, even thorough they are old. Quote
