Kintobor Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 ~This mission is for chosen heroes only. If you'd like to join Heroica: Glory Amongst the Star, please refer to the Heroica: GAtS Rules and FAQ thread.~----- The heroes made their way around Heroica Hall, through the old, overgrown gardens and green space, towards the back entrance of the Maintenance Office. A large pile of junk lays sprawled out on the overgrown lawn, covered in cobwebs and dust. Old chairs, beds, pipes, insulation, and other old and worn furniture and interior hardware, from insulation to boards heaps precariously in the pile. From inside the maintenance office, the heroes can hear the smashing of metal and the roar of a saw blade, noises seemingly muted by the expanse of the former hotel-turned-mercenary guild's interior. From where they are, they could peer inside and see a figure working away at a bench. Duvors Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Having escaped his grueling elevator purgatory, Enson had at last arrived at his destination. Still dazed from the muzak horrors he had endured he took a moment to look around himself, wondering if all his stool carrying would accomplish would be another piece of detritus for the pile of junk. With a brief shrug of resignation he strode over to the door, making a valiant effort to ignore the screeching din coming from within. Steeling himself and tucking one of the stool halves under his arm, he raised a hand to the door and gave a gentle rap, saying something as his did. Unfortunately the noise drowned out the knock and whatever he was trying to say. A look of mild annoyance crossed his face and he knocked again, somewhat louder but still too softly to he heard. Stealing himself he drew his hand back and hammered on the door as loudly as he could. "Rachel!" he called at the top of his voice, "It's Enson! I need to speak with you!" While waiting for a response he turned to look behind him and finally noticed the others. "Oh!" he said, a look of surprise on his face, "Errr... Who are you?" (OOC: All seems correct!)
Waterbrick Down Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Valesia marveled at the sheer scale of the hall as she wandered around the exterior. "My imagine the parties and grand galas this place must have hosted back in its glory days!" Arriving at the back maintenance office the Cladrasith came upon a Quo'ri. "Hi Hun, I'm Valesia. Charmed to make your acquaintance. I take it you're here looking for that sweet thing, Ms. Rachel?" OOC: Stats are good.
Peppermint_M Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Aysu was starry-eyed at the prime salvage stacked in piles around her. Mentally pricing it all up. 'Could live for nearly three cycles on the credits from this lot...' Shaken from the junk-fever by the Quo'ri she smiled. "Hi! I'm Aysu. I don't know the gal who hired us. I kinda wanted to see what amazing and valuable salvage there was..." Catching herself Aysu grinned nervously. "I mean, I fancied something familiar for my first ever task as a hero!"
Waterbrick Down Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Valesia smiled warmly at Aysu, "Completely agree dearie, I see this as an opportunity to become closer with the inner workings of the Hall. Valesia by the way. Peanut brittle?" The Cladrasith opens up a small container toward the pair of other heroes, "I had a little bit before heading here to whip up a batch."
Duvors Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 @Waterbrick Down @Peppermint_M "Ah," said Enson, bowing to the two newcomers, "good to meet you. My name is Ensonvilterayquis - or Enson, if that's more convenient - Qoun'ahn, assistant janitor, and agent of Heroica." He straightened up and gave them a quizzical look. "Erm, what are you doing here? You don't look like station maintenance, and the Scrapper's guild doesn't go around carrying weapons in the upper levels."
Waterbrick Down Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 "Oh Hun, didn't you hear? The three of us were assigned to the request posted by Ms. Rachel in the Hall."
Duvors Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 "Assigned? I don't remember... Wait a moment, are you members of Heroica? Did you just join?" He paused for a moment, muttering to himself. "You two, the Elf, the trenchcoat man, and the fellow who broke the stool, that's five in one day! That's a record!" He bowed again to his compatriots. "Well I'm sorry if I've offended you." he said, "Welcome to Heroica."
Waterbrick Down Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 "No offense taken at all, Enson. And yes, we're all full fledged heroes and we've apparently got some sort of rat infestation problem to take care of. Though between you and little ol' me, I think it'll just take a bit of scrumptious cooking to lure those little furry critters out and relocate them to some where less intrusive."
Peppermint_M Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 "Yup, what Valesia said, hired at the hall." She spotted the candy. "Ooh, sweeties, yes please!" Munching on brittle she spoke between bites, "Thought I could talk some rats out of the place, and when that don't work I can pop a few warning shots in. Always worked on the wrecks."
Kintobor Posted June 23, 2021 Author Posted June 23, 2021 As the heroes began introducing each other, the door to the maintenance office swung open as a human woman, seemingly in her early twenties, stood in the door frame as she removed her googles and put her glasses on. Dust covered her from head to toe as she smiled at the party. "You must be the folks I hired. So, uh, hi, my name's Rachel Sprocketson. Oh, uh, and for some of you, welcome to Heroica! ...is that peanut brittle?" She pointed Valesia's cooking.
Waterbrick Down Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 "It is indeed, Ms. Rachel, feel free." Valesia offers the dish, "So we heard you had a bit of a rodent infestation?"
Duvors Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 "Oh, ah, Rachel." Enson coughed into his fist. "Sorry, hello. I came to ask you about this stool here, someone sat on it too hard and it snapped. I didn't want to just throw it in a closet and I couldn't put it down the chute while it was stopped up." There was a momentary silence. "And of course I'd be happy to help you with that while I'm here." he finished, a little self-consciously.

She pats herself down, finding a clean piece of wax paper and begins to wrap up the sweet. "A little something something for later." Rachel grins to herself before replying. "Well, there is a bit of a problem involving rodents. It incidentally also has to do with the garbage chute. It's a little complicated to describe, honestly. Part of me was a bit hesitant to go to deep into the details in case someone saw the notice that isn't from our guild, so I described the situation to the best of my ability." 14 minutes ago, Duvors said: "Oh, ah, Rachel." "Huh, well, it does look like one of the stools we were looking to get replaced anyways. Man, the amount of money going into this place is insane..." Rachel points behind Enson, towards the garbage heap. "Feel free to just toss it into the pile for now, I guess."
Peppermint_M Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 "Awesome place you got here." Aysu couldn't help glancing at each new pile and stack she sighted. Her family had never struggled, because they had always picked up any and all salvage, it was a habit she was loath to break. 7 minutes ago, Kintobor said: Part of me was a bit hesitant to go to deep into the details in case someone saw the notice that isn't from our guild, "Worse than rats then? Or are they like, really really big ones? Rodents of Unusual Size were pretty contrary to their name some places I've been!"

Rodents of Unusual Size were pretty contrary to their name some places I've been!" "Well, I do like to think I put enough effort into the place to keep it operational." Rachel scratches the back of her head. "However, this place is old, and was left to collect dust. There's a lot that needs repairs, so it should keep me busy enough." At the mention of rats, she visibly bites her tongue. "It's a bit complicated... why don't we step inside and I'll explain what's going on, yeah?" Rachel steps inside her office and makes room for the PCs. The office space is a mess: leftover takeout piles on top of a table, and sawdust lines the floor. The cluttered space has led to things being tied to the roof, as a large device dangles nearby the lantern. A soft droning noise echoes through the room. Rachel grabs some of the leftovers and dumps it into a garbage bin, it too overflowing. "Sorry about the mess, it's uh... getting out of control. So, here's what's going on. As you can clearly tell, the hall has a garbage disposal issue. Like, a big one. The garbage chute is clogged with a mass of garbage, and because of this, we cannot properly dispose of the garbage around here. This is an issue on top of the fact that we're also in the midst of renovating parts of the former hotel into a space more adequate to a guild of our nature. To top it all off, I'm pretty certain we have a rodent issue. They're coming up from the garbage chute, and out into the basement, so unclogging it is your first priority. Then, you'll need to descend into the garbage chute and take out whatever is nesting down there. It's a nasty bit of work, but someone's got to do it. Once you've done all that, I can begin grabbing the junk and properly disposing of it instead of it just lying around. I'll be taking you down to the basement storage facility so you can get started, but do you have any questions before I lead you down there?"
Duvors Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Enson looked sadly at the broken object in his hands. After the hours he had spent wandering this seemed an anticlimactic end to his magical stool adventures. Still, there was work to be done. With a quick heave he tossed the furniture fragments onto the pile and followed the others inside. Having followed the others and listened to Rachel's account, Enson's brow furrowed in concentration. "I'm sorry, but from the sounds of it you're expecting these rats to be aggressive, is that right?" He spread his hands. "As far as I understand that's very unusual behavior. Most rats run away when confronted by people."

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what might cause such behaviour, but maybe someone in your group might? The worrying thing about all this is the weird noises coming from the basement. It sounds like something big is down there, bigger than a standard rat at least."

"As I was telling my fine companions outside Miss Rachel, it sounds like all these rodents need is some incentive to have them go else where and nothing does that like fine cooking. You wouldn't have anything like bait we could use to lure them out by any chance would you? Also how long would you say the chute has been clogged?"
Peppermint_M Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 "Okay, clear the chute and then have a slide. Uh, there aren't any like, compactors or choppers around the place? Like, whole rooms where the walls push towards each other to squash the trash? Or lasers that slice it into tiny cubes? Y'know, just in case." Aysu's grin was a little plastered on, "Or, uh, tunnels full of inexplicable flame throwers?" Aysu started to go through her mental catalogue of the trash she had seen outside, a good metal staff to poke with would be ideal...

I've spoken with the Scrappers Guild, as well as the station's Sanitation crew, and they both told me that the station's garbage disposal systems are not running today, so you guys should be safe from any crushers or flame throwers." Valesia, places the leftovers in a take-out box and stores that in her satchel, "I hope this doesn't stain anything."
Duvors Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 @Waterbrick Down "Of course," Enson said in answer to the question, "You wouldn't build something in a big city without hooking it in to the sanitation systems. And dumping trash directly into space is illegal anyways, it creates navigation hazards for incoming ships." Enson gave Rachel a quick nod. "If you don't mind miss, I have no further questions. I am ready to move on when my companions are."
