Hrafn Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 (edited) A thought occurred to me and I wanted to get it down in rough form to share with others (and see what refinements they come up with). I combined Sariel's two speed ratchet transmission with an old differential to create this drive+neutral+reverse automatic transmission. Input is on the axle running through the 16t gear with chain. Let me know if this has been done before - in retrospect it seems obvious so surely it occurred to someone else. Edited June 9, 2021 by Hrafn Added link to image Quote
2GodBDGlory Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 I recall seeing transmissions with the same working principle (fast forwards, slow backwards), but not necessarily the same execution. Your design has a pleasing simplicity, but is still a bit difficult to understand from a picture. I also found that it ran much more smoothly with the 16T clutch replaced with a normal 16T gear, and the 4x2 beam replaced with two #1 connectors and a 2L axle. Nice work! Quote
Hrafn Posted June 10, 2021 Author Posted June 10, 2021 (edited) Thanks! On further reflection, though, the use of the differential is not really helpful - a basic ratchet transmission achieves the same effect in less space. Edited June 10, 2021 by Hrafn Quote
