I've been using Photoshop Elements 4 to edit MOC pictures for ages (don't laugh), and recently got my hands on Photoshop CS3. Unbelievably they're not the same program. Can anyone tell me how to extract images from their background in the new one. I used to use "magic extractor" in elements, now I cant seem to get the fancier one to work... As far as I recall, the general functionality of the magic wand hasn't changed from the ancient version of Photoshop to the CS* versions... here's a few things just to make sure of: -be sure you're on the correct layer (whatever layer the image is on of course) -after selecting the magic wand check the "tolerance" level on the toolbar (top of the screen most likely)... the higher the tolerance the more variance in pixel color the wand will select: if you have a tolerance of 0 or 1, and you select a pixel, you will likely only select just that pixel and none of the surrounding ones (as photographs tend to have some variance from pixel to pixel, even if your eye doesn't see it) -if you can see the area that is being selected (the little blinking lines appear around it), but deleting it doesn't seem to do anything, then you probably only have one layer: the "background" layer... try selecting the entire picture, then cutting it out and pasting it into a new layer (one with a transparent background); now see if the wand has the desired effect (you can remove the "background" layer at this point too) Hope this helps Quote
Hinckley Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 You have a new tool with Photoshop as well called the lasso tool. If you are patient you can wrap the picture with it and that creates a selection-for those pictures where the wand refuses to work. Quote
