Duq Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 I've finally finished my BR 94! BR94 - Front 3-4 by Duq, on Flickr My first plan for this engine was many years ago and was going to use medium wheels. That was never built and more than a year ago I started building the 94 with Large wheels. It has no tender so all the electrical components need to fit inside a not very big body. As I had decided it should have a full interior I couldn't put the battery box in there. In the end I decided to go with PFx brick (no need for visible IR-receiver) and rechargeable 9V battery. A tight fit, but it worked: BR94 - Battery and motor by Duq, on Flickr Like my previous steamers this is running TrainedBricks rods, running very smoothly. Hundreds of BR 94 engines were built and later modified in various workshops and railway companies. Of the surviving engines no two are the same. The greebling around the boiler is based on a mix of photos I've found and is meant to look 'convincing' rather than be a correct representation of all those little components. caiman0637 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Looks great! Did you have to modify any pieces? Quote
Amoreternum Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Great model! Really love the greebling in front, might have to pick up some of those pieces for my own locos. And you are using the same batteries that I do - may I ask how you solderered the wires to the Lego plug? I'm really not to experienced with these things and so far could not find a way to power my SBrick with a custom battery. Also, great job on the interior! Quote
Pdaitabird Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 This is superb. All the little details really look good. Nice work! Quote
dr_spock Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Looks great. Nice use of the black rollerskates. Quote
Pendra37 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Really nice looking engine with great details. I also like the kinematics hook. Way more elegant than Lego's magnetic things. I'm just wondering, can this take a turn? It seems all the wheels are fixed. Quote
Duq Posted March 9, 2021 Author Posted March 9, 2021 Thanks for all the compliments guys! 2 hours ago, caiman0637 said: Looks great! Did you have to modify any pieces? I opened the PF plug (causing some damage in the process) and replaced the wires with the wires on the button connector. Inside the PF connectors (and same applies to the old 9V connectors) wires are 'skewered' onto contacts, not soldered. 23 minutes ago, Pendra37 said: Really nice looking engine with great details. I still has a magnet at the back for pulling a train - the little hook wouldn't be able to pull much ;-) Only the wheels on the second and fifth axles have flanges, the others are 'blind'. So yes, it can take turns, even the tight Lego ones. Quote
Amoreternum Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Thanks for the answer! Will try that out, would be great if I get it to work - your loco is a good example of the advantages of a custom power source. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 So many details and so much perfection The electric motorization is beautiful too! The BR94 was one of my first models and I can only say that my steam engine is far from these standards ...great work @Duq! Quote
Duq Posted March 9, 2021 Author Posted March 9, 2021 Thanks @LEGO Train 12 Volts! I have of course seen your model, nothing to be ashamed of. Your building abilities improve over time ;-) I think mine is only the third BR94 in Lego, the other one was built by someone in 1000steine. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 That is an amazing build! The greebling is more than convincing and there are a ton of clever tricks all over the locomotive, e.g., I like how you did the extra slope in the cab roof. Of course the interior of the cab is over the top to get so much detail in such a small space. Then to top it all off you fit all of the electronics in the locomotive. Now you just need several dozen cars to shunt around (grin) Quote

We aim to please ;-) Seriously though - I don't build much but I do try to make every model better than the last one. I was already quite pleased with the BR 55 so I had work to do... I may have a go at fitting lights but I'd have to order some first. 1 hour ago, zephyr1934 said: Now you just need several dozen cars to shunt around (grin) And a bigger shed to fit the shunting yard ;-) Quote
Man with a hat Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Oh Wow! And those roller-skates prove to be really versatile. Quote

Toastie Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 Years. I can clearly see years of thinking and building and tweaking. She looks like a very nice sample of very expensive Wine. Wine meant to ripe for years. Or Whiskey for decades. Wonderful piece of art. Cheers to the loco - and you! Thorsten Quote
dtomsen Posted March 11, 2021 Posted March 11, 2021 If I haven't made it clear enough elsewhere, Duq....this is a bloody marvelous MODEL Quote

I do not have any experience with wires and tinkering of electronic parts. My 9v adaptor that I bought years ago has an awkwardly long and stiff wire from the button connector that makes it difficult to place the 9v battery in the loco. Duq Posted March 12, 2021 Author Posted March 12, 2021 Thanks Thorsten & Dennis! @LEGOTrainBuilderSG I didn't take pictures, no. I sent you a DM; I can make you two adapter cables and send them to you if you want. Quote

Duq Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 BR94 rear lights by Duq, on Flickr Decided to keep going with the engine and add some lights. For now tail lights only as I'm awaiting an order of LEDs with longer wires. Quote
Feuer Zug Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 Excellent work on the steam locomotive and the light mod fits perfectly. Quote

Paperinik77pk Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Spectacular locomotive, very detailed and full of great building solutions!!! I like the lights a lot!!! Ciao! Davide Quote
Supplement_Creatif Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Such a beautiful locomotive. I don`t know much about German Loco`s (or any loco`s for that matter) but the red under carriage with the black body is such a slick look. Is this typical of german, or european, locomotives? As many have commented before the use of those roller skates are great! In terms of getting the lights going, did you have to bore a hole through that red 1x6 tile to get those wires through or are the wires cleverly routed somewhere else? cheers, Quote
