SteamSewnEmpire Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 (edited) I had to do one of these eventually - they're just too weird (I wish the survivor still ran). I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out - I managed to just barely squeeze two opposed L-size PU motors into the locomotive, so she'd be a real blitzing lugger if built. It also comes in at ~1,000 pieces, so like the IRL Q1, this version is quite economical. Edited March 5, 2021 by SteamSewnEmpire Quote
SteamSewnEmpire Posted March 5, 2021 Author Posted March 5, 2021 (edited) One question, though - did the Bulleid's actually have a slightly wider gap between the rear and middle driver than the front and middle? Because I can fix that relatively easily - I just couldn't decide if I was seeing things or not. *Edit* here it is with the front wheel pulled back slightly: Edited March 5, 2021 by SteamSewnEmpire Quote
ColletArrow Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 An interesting rendition of a Telescopic Breadloaf, with plenty of neat parts usage and underframe detailing. The gaps in the frame come across well too. Judging purely by eye I can't see any obvious difference in driver spacing from the photos, so if there is one it's likely so small that it's negligible in LEGO form. Quote
Hod Carrier Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 I've only been able to find one image of a Q1 loco diagram online, and the measurements are quite indistinct. However, it looks like there's only 6 inches difference in the wheelbase from middle to front and middle to rear axles. If anything your second iteration with the pulled back front axle looks less right to me than the first version, so I'd be inclined to go back to that. It's a great design and instantly recognisable, but I would just put the smokebox back to black rather than grey. Also, is there another way to design the front bufferbeam? It looks a little low and bit too far forward compared to the scale model in the side view images. Loving the peaked hats as buffers too. Quote
Shiva Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 Back to 1st version. It's rather the rear wheel that is a tiny bit too close to the middle wheel. Half a stud towards the rear? Another nice build from you :) Flicker page with all your locomotives somewhere? Quote
Amoreternum Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 While I always admire your models, I feel like this one is very unterrated - right now, I'm trying to roughly replicate it for my layout based on your pictures, since I wanted to have a Q1 for quite a while and yours is astounding. It's difficult to say the least, and especially the frame below the boiler is far more intricate than it seems on first glance. Really says a lot about your skill and attention to detail. Thanks for sharing all of these with us! Quote
