I'm sorry if this is a daft beginner question.

I'm trying to build a 10212 imperial shuttle, it's far too expensive to buy from eBay so I'm bricking out on brick link.

Problem is that even after I've got a about a third of it from my collection the price for the remainder is prohibitively expensive.

Im after 1600 pieces which works out at about £300.

Are there any suggestions as to how I can achieve my goal or is brick link the best way to go?

Sometimes it is the color that makes it expensive, so if you can select a different color for a certain piece the price might drop. Sometimes by a lot.

There are also pieces that have different versions that are mostly the same, but differ a lot in price.

I would sort the pieces by price, and check which prices seem way to high for what they are. Then try to swap for different version or color.

Edit: on average a piece is 0,09 euro (dunno what currency you use)

Buying the set is nearly always cheaper than buying by parts.

You can often build 95% of sets like that for about half the value of the set. Then the rest of parts that are unique to the set or are only in hard to find sets will cost you the other half. There is a reason for it. If it was cheap to bricklink it, people would do it and sell as the set.
