Hello, first post ...

I want to attach parts with a small pin - such as the Friends flower hair accessories - to a hollow stud.

One obvious way to do this is to use an ink well piece, but that takes up a lot of space, is there a legal way that won't make the flower stick out so much?

Hi and welcome!

A somewhat adequate solution to having the flower hair piece not stick out so much is to use another flower piece like this:

95832-191-54416965-1c95-4461-9b50-91e4b2

Which has the standard 3.2mm shaft at the bottom as well as a 1.5mm hole going through.

It's not the cleanest solution but it sticks out a lot less than the inkwell piece. Hope this works for you! :sweet:

There are a number of "legal" ways to do it, but it of course depends on what kind of construction you have under that hollow stud you're trying to connect with.

You can put an inkwell piece under an open-stud 1x1 plate and it comes up just far enough to connect with the pin on the flower.  You can also put any element that is standard shaft width that includes a pin hole in the open stud and then connect to that.  Examples would be part 32828 or 37695 though there are probably other options that would work better depending on what you've got below that open stud in question.

I also have this same question! However, I am open to any “illegal” methods of doing so. I’ve been thinking of using resin? I haven’t tried it though so I’m unsure if it would work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Those are nice suggestions, those pin-holes sneak into all sorts of places.

I wanted to attach to the three-leaf plate, https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=32607&name=Plant Plate, Round 1 x 1 with 3 Leaves&category=[Plant]#T=C but unfortunately I couldn't see a compact method, so the solution was to change to a different flower. Lego produces some lovely flowers, and also some rather clunky ones, the nicer the flower, the rarer it seems to be.
