Hi all

We've just finished building the 42100 liebherr excavator. And it's a beast.

However it doesn't turn properly on carpet. I've seen the issue reported elsewhere and I wondered if anyone has a fix we can try.

It turns fine on wooden floor, but given that carpet is very common, and the boys room is carpeted, I'm keen to get it working as it should so it doesn't end up in other parts of the house.

I think it's an issue with the cogs in the track sections that turn the treads skipping with the added friction of the carpet.

Any ideas? I might even look at returning it as the programming bit falls down as the turning process doesn't match the apps expectation.

mines having a similar issue. It seems the tracks are pulling apart when it turns I've checked and they do indeed seem to easily pull away at the light grey L shaped pieces with built in pegs. I thought it was a mistake I made I first but after seeing a second thread on the subject I think its a design flaw. If you could get a beam or frame across the tracks and round those L beams maybe that would help them to stay together better? (ps I have no idea how the mechanical aspect of these sets work I just follow the instructions and hope I've not missed anything important so take my advice at your own risk!)

Well you can remove the linear clutch gear, but I'm not sure if you should. It's a heavy model with a lot of friction on the ground, and maybe parts get damaged without clutch gear.

May try to add a few/ a lot of flat tiles to the outside of the tracks so it slips more, but I'm not sure if the parts will hold in place while driving.

I think the problem is they sacrificed rear track base solidity for battery pack access. I've tried adding a couple of extra beams to help stop it pulling itself apart but they don't seem to make much difference.

Thanks all. I'm going to speak to Lego after the new year as I'm not really happy that it doesn't work on carpet. Does kinda make it fairly useless for the active Lego loving son.

The gears for the tracks are pretty well braced, so any skipping is likely to be coming from the grey/white clutch pieces. This is how it is intended to function from a mechanical perspective in order to prevent damage if ever the tracks have too much resistance. You could try (at your own risk) to replace the clutch parts with straight axles, but there's always that chance you might damage something. Either way, you probably won't have much luck trying to return it if it is indeed working as it was intended to.
