Ayrlego Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Hi everybody! Here is my first foray into the Neo Classic Space genre, the X-2 Patrol Craft and my first post here in the Sci-Fi section of the forums. I had a lot of space sets as a child but when castle was introduced and I got my first Black Falcon castle, unfortunately space lost a lot of it's appeal for me. As an AFOL I have long admired the Neo Classic Space genre, and I finally decided it was time to give it a go! I decided to go with the somewhat under represented grey/trans green scheme as it was one of my favourites when I was younger and one of my earliest memories is getting 6940 for my (5th? maybe 4th?) birthday. I was so excited but my parents made me go to school before I was allowed to build it! The challenge with this one was to use existing parts in my collection - which I mainly did although I had to order the trans-green windshield. It did force me to break the rule of not mixing grey and bley as I only had the tail fin, windshield attachment plate and ski pieces in old grey. Hopefully it is not too much of an eyesore! I have since made an additional 2 bricklink orders, so I suspect it won't be long before more spaceships join the X-2! Plus I really enjoyed something different to my usual pirate/castle builds! I do plan a modification in the coming week(s) to the blue/trans yellow scheme just to see what it looks like. Anyway, suggestions and criticism welcome, thanks for looking. EDIT: Added the Blue/Bley 'Classic' version below! The Federation recognised the potential of the X-2 Patrol Craft developed for the Proto-Security Forces. A conversion was ordered for regular service as a scout. Six laser canon were considered over kill for a scout craft, so the outboard centre cannon were removed and replaced with sensor equipment. The canopy was changed to the regular trans-yellow and the main engine space was elongated to contain extra fuel cells for greater range. Quote
The Neighborhood Merchant Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 That looks really sweet, Ayr! It's great to see you in the space game. You for sure captured the classic space look, especially with the black and yellow stripes. You don't see too much of the trans-green classic space on here, so it's great to see more of that. 6940 was one of my first space sets as well and is definitely my favorite, so it's great to see some aspects of that being used. There is some great part usage here as well as sleek curves. I'm trying to figure out what you've used alongside the technic towball pins to create the mini-engines, but I can't quite pinpoint the part. Those look really cool, and I'll definitely "acquire" those from you. Very neat ship, I look forward to seeing your other space stuff! Quote
Ayrlego Posted December 13, 2020 Author Posted December 13, 2020 Thanks! 2 hours ago, The Neighborhood Merchant said: I'm trying to figure out what you've used alongside the technic towball pins to create the mini-engines, but I can't quite pinpoint the part. The mini-engines were created using 48169 'Light Bluish Gray Technic, Brick Modified 2 x 2 with Pin Hole, Rotation Joint Socket' as they appear in the speeder in 7261 I originally had an additional 48169 at the rear of the starboard engine, but I only had a total of three and couldn't replicate it on the port side, so I had to modify the rear of both engines. Here is a breakdown of the wing structure for you :) Quote
JintaiZ Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 Nice build! Not a criticism, but I think it'd be nice if some blue was included. Quote
White Phoenix of the Crown Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 Amazing model! The windshield isn't from the Space Police 2 series ? Quote
The Neighborhood Merchant Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 @Ayrlego Thank you for the breakdown pics, that's very helpful! Those pieces work great for small form engines. Very creative! Can't wait to see what you do next. @JintaiZ Every space moc, haha I think it's time we see a classic space MOC from you Mr. Z. I need to see some blue on your end! Quote

I think it is, although I never owned any Space Police 2 sets. I ordered it from Bricklink :) Quote
Professor Thaum Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 For a first try in the Sci Fi zone, that's a amazing one ! Both are very well executed and a clever upgrade of the original ones ! Quote
