valon Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 hi, i just joined eurobricks and two of the main reason that i signed up were guilds of historica and brethern of the brick seas. Despite having mostly avalonian building peices, i had read alot about kaliphlin and decided to join it, however for brethern of the brick seas, i do not know what nation is should pick, i find eslandola and corrington most interesting, but i have 145 bluecoats i would not be able to use. I have mostly eslandolan building peices, but not very many minifgures for it. i have 5 redcoats, but not many good building peices for corrington. who should i join ? - valon Quote
Bodi Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Join Oleon ofc, since you have so many bluecoats. Quote
Professor Thaum Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 You can join whichever side you want, no matter the figs or the parts. @Bodi : you're out Quote
Bregir Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 If I were you, I'd check out this guide: And this: I would suggest reading the first page of each of the faction threads too. And then I would select the faction you find most inspiring. That will make it much more fun to build, and should you have to invest a few euros in green coats that shouldn't be a problem. I find that I rarely need big armies in my mocs, even though army building is fun. And note that each faction has a large number of different settlements, each with their own style, so there will be something for any collection. You can also build in other factions' settlements and many challenges or builds will have you include troops or people from other factions. In terms of activity, I think Eslandola is probably the most deserving of a new player, so if you like a Spanish/Dutch trading empire with powerful trading companies at the heart of military and political power, they are certainly a good choice. And the people over there are actually generally quite nice (despite being greencoats ) The most important is that you find a faction that suits you. Speaking for Corrington, one has to accept a very streamlined approach to all things policy, where taking too many liberties from the decided line will not go down well. In OL leadership is strong, as is the faith. In ESL, the trading companies are much more independent and getting involved in them can be a way to pursue your own purposes. And for the ultimate freedom, you can always go sea rat, where they really appreciate individual "initiative"... Quote
CapOnBOBS Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) I'm only 2 months into BOBS, but, I believe the world requires balance between the forces of good (Oleon) and evil (Corrington). My take is Eslandolan and the Sea Rats pursue commerce and mischief respectively in that balanced universe. That said, the Red Coats have a much larger holding than the Blue and I think 145 blue coats!!! Would do much to help us restore the balance! Edited December 12, 2020 by CapOnBOBS Quote

valon Posted December 12, 2020 Author Posted December 12, 2020 i am leaning towards eslandola or corrington, but i am at my country house and have few building peices and may wait till i go to my normal house to build, because my ships ( black seas barracauda porate bay armada flagship and moc mediveal ship ) are all there ( also can you use a set as your ship ? i might us the black seas barracauda once i fix it !!!! ) Quote
The Neighborhood Merchant Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Good question @valon, the way I came to choose Eslandola was through building. You should try making any scale creation of your own that's Olean themed, Corrington (not evil ) themed, Eslandola themed (neutrality rocks), and Sea Rat themed. Doesn't have to be anything big or anything you post to Eurobricks. Can be just for you as a test to see what style you enjoy the most. I tried doing this and had a lot of fun, especially with Sea Rats, but in the end I chose Eslandola because green and gold are far superior colors to generic red and blue. Jokes aside though, it really is up to you. @Bregir's information is also definitely something I agree to, except the greencoat part. It simply comes down to end on whatever makes you comfortable and you enjoy working on. They are always a lot of sub-factions in all the groups you can join or partake in, so don't feel that if you're locked in place as soon as you make a decision. I believe you can list a ship like the barracuda, but you'd have to modify it a bit to make it unique and also it's a large vessel so you'd have to borrow DBs from somebody to license it. It would probably be best to use your free class 1 (I think?) license and start with a small ship. These guys might be able to answer that question more in-depth than me though. I try to sell every ship I can get my hands on. Enjoy and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you! Quote
evancelt Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) Like @CapOnBOBS, I just joined a few months ago. All of the rules were quite overwhelming from the outside and I still don't have a total handle on them. That said, once you join a faction they'll help guide you. There are some hidden communication methods behind the scenes within factions that will help you strategize as a team. Like @Bregir, I also think Eslandola could probably use the new member most (based on frequency of new faction topics), but you should choose where you want to build the most. Hope to see more of your builds! Edited December 12, 2020 by evancelt Quote
NOD Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) Existing minifigures and buildings are not important for your selection. You only have 1-3 or 145 minifigures for a faction. No matter! If you have fun you will have more minifigures over time. Buildings from the "colonial era" fit into any faction. What do you like best? Don't look at what you have now, look at what you want. Kai NRG Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Go for the faction that most inspires you to build! Quote
valon Posted December 12, 2020 Author Posted December 12, 2020 are you allowed to have side charcaters ? i know you can in guilds of historica, so if i can i am thinking of a corrington charcater with a very important eslandolan side character Quote

So if you are part of Corrington, you will not also be part of Eslandola. But you are free to play an Eslandian side character. (Or the other way around) Further, several Eslandians are getting involved in the fighting with mercenaries, so being Sea Rat or Eslandian does not mean you cannot be part of the fighting. Quote

Or, you can make a side character who is from another nation that has "joined the otherside," e.g. my side character of William for my MC Emile. And by "joined the otherside" I mean it's just the history of where said character is from. Edited December 12, 2020 by KotZ Quote

Don't feel any pressure to join a particular faction. 19 hours ago, valon said: are you allowed to have side characters ? Bregir answered this well: "Yes, but you can only be part of one faction." But it is easy to have side characters of the other factions. I play for Eslandola, but I have minor characters that are Corrish and Oleonder. I use them to give my main Eslandolan characters to have storylines that connect to other factions. On 12/12/2020 at 7:15 AM, valon said: can you use a set as your ship ? Keymonus Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Welcome on board, whatever faction you choose! I’m quite late at the party, but I agree with the others... choose the faction that you “feel” more at first impression. However, the factions’ pages and the descriptions are basically what we started from, but each “nation” has evolved quite a lot with time: we have obviously had priests in Oleon, scientists in Corrington, merchants in Eslandola and pirates in the Sea Rats, but you can basically take the way you want -and I think this is the greatest fun. My main character is an officer in Oleander army, is not that pious and subtly despises the “big wigs”, the nobles who occupy their position with no merits, something that would fit more for a Corrish; on the contrary the ordered and regulated Corrington also has a questionable trade company that often operated “above the rules”. My suggestion then is to take a faction but without feeling “limited” by your choice: the brick seas are big enough for everything you decide to become! Quote

Indeed - with the caveat that as in all other RP, your IC actions will have an impact on how the rest of the Brick Seas will react to you. A pious sea rat on a campaign against piracy will probably find his peers looking at him in a less than favorable light, for instance Quote
