RocketBoy Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 (edited) *Your entry has earned 5 XP (x2 for limited challenge)* Story Spoiler Rampart Station Incident – Documentation Report Summary URGENT: Only appropriate members of the CFS and New Republic have authorized clearance to this report, on a “need-to-know” basis. Revealing the contents of this report is a class-2a criminal offense. Rampart Station appears to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. One of dozens of CFS research stations, it additionally served as a refueling harbor for passing starships. A bright light in the dark for weary travelers. Rampart had been studying the Red Twins, a pair of dying stars in the titular Red Twin system, when its sensors detected a small object approaching at low speeds. The object was presumed to be a piece of wreckage or meteorite, but when scanned, returned strange signals to the station crew. It was brought aboard by the Rampart’s tractor beam, where visual contact observed it to be a two-meter shard of black stone that [CONFIDENTIAL]. Ten minutes after seizing the object, Rampart Station made an unplanned and unexplained hyperspace jump out of the system. All on-board subsystems excluding the hyperdrive ceased to function while the station was in hyperspace, including communication, life-support, and security protocols. During the duration of this jump, two-thirds of the station crew died or became violently insane. Several eye witness accounts reference shadows, “ghosts”, and odd voices heard coming from the darkness, often occurring before a loss of control and psychological faculties. [See Hololog “Lankin-1”, “Ouert-3” “[CONFIDENTIAL]”] Some of the overheard phrases were comforting (“It is going to be alright.”) whereas others were threatening or frightening (“When it’s over, you may be the only one still alive.” “You do not wish to be alone, do you? It would be easier to be dead.” “[CONFIDENTIAL]” “He will find you. It’s a matter of time.” “Bow to your king.” “Space, space, when the space leaves, nothing takes its place. Nothing at all.” “You will learn to love this.”) The hyperdrive was deactivated mid-flight by one of the engineering crew, interrupting the jump and stranding the station far from any nearby planets. The intended destination of the hyperspace jump is unknown. After leaving hyperspace the visual and auditory phenomena largely appeared to cease, but many of the remaining crew posed a danger to those who had not experienced hallucinations. One ship hololog [“Ouert-5”] mentions a persistent figure—ghostly and robed in black—who went ignored by the psychologically affected crew members. This figure showed itself to them on several occasions, always accompanied by red mist. On seeing the figure, the upset witness described a heightening of her destructive and selfish instincts, and confesses to having left another survivor behind to their death. A New Republic CR90 Corvette, the Decisive, was dispatched to the stranded Rampart Station after the station was detected by a sector scan intended for [CONFIDENTIAL]. Unable to hail the crew after multiple attempts, Captain [CONFIDENTIAL] sent a small team of marines aboard. These marines were able to gather [CONFIDENTIAL] survivors, but returned to their ship with [CONFIDENTIAL] members of their force still on Rampart Station, including marine lieutenant Hosa Jisch. A final transmission from onboard begged for the destruction of the entire station. At the behest of the survivors who escaped, the Decisive complied with this request. One survivor claims to have seen the black-robed figure through one of the station viewports before the station’s destruction. They are quoted as saying, “Maybe it’s over then. Maybe it’s gone.” Without warning, they turned to a New Republic crew member and [CONFIDENTIAL]. The survivor was taken into custody, but [CONFIDENTIAL] soon after. After the station was destroyed, New Republic scanners detected the original object within the wreckage intact. Once again at the urging of the survivors, the object was left to drift and remained untouched by the crew of the Decisive until support arrived. The object is now in the custody of [CONFIDENTIAL]. All survivors have undergone thorough medical examination, yielding [CONFIDENTIAL] results. Please do not look into this further. Proper authorities have abandoned investigation and left incident to other hands. More Photos Spoiler Thanks for looking. Edited November 3, 2020 by goatman461 Quote
Ross Fisher Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 The SCP is strong with this one! I love the story, and the builds great, too. My only concern is that the New Republic and the Confederacy seem to be working together, here. Seems a bit suspect to me. Quote

Well, the New Republic is the governing body of much of the galaxy, and the CFS is a free association economic partnership/common philosophy shared between a network of colony worlds. They don't actually overlap (The CFS is not a governing body), so I see no reason they wouldn't cooperate with one another. Yeah, the SCP format was the big influence for sure! Thanks for the compliments! 3 minutes ago, marvelBoy123 said: Nice atmospheric build! Thank you! Quote
