pantelis Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 Hi to all , this days i was looking an old catalog with so many great of classic castle sets.. One of my favoritr all this years was the 6054 forestmen's hideout , so i try to make a new one for me with the fealing of 6054. The base is from the lego - ikea bygglek boxes and the reasson is this days i make 4-5 mocs with them because i find them very cleaver for display bases.. So this is my forestmen's new hideout display.. Quote
zoth33 Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 Nice. I like that you kept the roof blue. The trees are nicely done and I like the path with the cart. I like that you made it slightly bigger and used some profile bricks in there. I actually remember getting this set from my grandmother. Fun set to build back in the day. Quote
jtooker Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 Well on on updating that set as MOC. The more detailed trees and the roof technique add just enough pop without making the scene too complicated. Using those boxes as a display base is interesting. Quote

Henry Bricklider Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 I dig this revamp/reimagining. I think you captured the spirit of the original set really well. All the colors blend really well together and the blue roofs really pop. Awesome stuff. Quote

John Cromwell Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 This is a great 'modernising' of a classic. However, I dislike the fact that you made the trees brown while the rest of the 'tree' is black. In the original the whole tree was black and the outpost was built into the tree. Just a minor complaint for a really great build! Quote

I really don't see so many black trees in my life.. Maybe lego didn't have reddish brick arches.. ??.. Quote
John Cromwell Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Well, my complaint is that (to me at least) you kind of made your model into a tower with trees growing out of it but if that's the case, why have parts of the tower just stop? Like right above the printed corner brick the tower just ends... Just looks a little weird to me. But that's a small complaint on an otherwise awesome build! 20 minutes ago, pantelis said: I really never understand why the trees are black at the lego set.. Yeah, I guess Lego thought black trees were better. Quote

The 2339 arch wasn't produced in brown (or later reddish brown) until around 1993, so black was a stand-in for brown at the time. Brown and green were very rare colors back then. I would love to see a lot of the old sets from the 1980s, like the Forestmen's Hideout redone in brown rather than black. That being said, @pantelis has done a great job here with a modern interpretation of the old set. I loved the old sets as a kid, but looking at them now, their color palette was limited compared to the great range of colors we have now, and you have done well bringing new life to the set.
