I wonder if the sudden change form tape to punch-holes is due to some second-hand market listings claiming to be new but with cut tape...

 

You can't un-punch those holes, so you'd know it's a new set.

Do you mean the steering angle? You may take out the 2L liftarms, that limits the rack movement (TLG added them to align the racks during building steps) - it will help a bit.

I rebuilt the whole chassis. This is the best that you could get with 12 tooth gear on 7L tooth bars:

The steering on the original set is limited by multiple elements:

a) Step 15 (p 14): The white 1L beam would pose restriction

b) Step 20 (p 18): The white 1L beam in combination with the two orange 2L beams (cf. Step 44 on p 38) would pose restriction

c) Step 24 (p 20): That grey beam restricts the movement of first axle steering to a tiny bit.

d) The chassis itself would prevent large steering angles. I think I found three spots where the wheels will touch beams at full steering lock. One of the (lowest in picture) is part of the drum gear box.

Disadvantage: My setup uses four gears to achive different steering angles. Straight alignment is somewhat difficult.

@anyUser, nice modification! Reminds me of Anthem's steering angles - it also has a narrower frame between front wheels, that doesn't limit the steering arms.

Now the turning radius must be just amazing!

Did anyone notice TLG silently updated the instructions August 1st and next production batches to fix the engine crankshaft and pistons which caused jamming? I'm building my truck just now (136S0) and it contains the parts as shown in the picture. Runs super smoothly, but firing order is still unrealisticly 1-2-3-4.

@anyUser That's is a good idea and very simple to make..   I love my 42112 and did you created a 42112 mod post??  I thought it was an official mod posting!!

I wondered why they did such a strange assembly with a 3L axle with stud and a tile and now they just returned back to the old-good scheme. Did they just try something new and failed?

I measured 120 cm for my 42112 and 65 cm for the modified one :-))

I started this topic some time ago. I'm stuck because my setup cannot move the drum.

I read about changes in the electronic instruction in a lego forum. My box shows "425S0" and I've got the 3.2L axle + tile setup.

Fun(?) fact: When I started to measure the turning radius the truck wouldn't move at all today. The drivetrain was jammed by the pistons. It was working fine when I stored it away some weeks ago.

Curious. I do like the new one more though, since the beams match the colour of the bushings.

 

Wonder if I could do this type of pistons on the Corvette?

You probably know how to fix the pistons using only the parts in the set, but anyway -- you can move the half-bushings down a bit and the engine will run smoothly.
