Shadows Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 When I first saw the Agents line, my mind said, "parts." It was right, and that's a good thing. One of those parts is a new Jungle map that would make Indy, Johnny Thunder, or Hernándo Cortés de Monroy Pizarro proud. That said, I still felt like it was lacking enough colour, so I decided to create a decal for it, simply to improve that. In reality, it has too much colour to be authentic as a historical representation, so I made one with fewer as well. Then one with even less. The pics are thumbnails, click them for the full size images. These and all 2x2 designs I produce are meant to be printed to a size of 1.551cm x 1.551cm (which is roughly 835dpi at this resolution). Don't ask me why I work at 835dpi, I never meant to, but they print very nicely that way. The first is the original, the second is just more colourful, the third is meant to symbolize El Dorado or any of the various golden city legends, and the last two are the more historically accurate 'plain' style that would look great when used with your Pirates/Conquistadors. Comments and all that. Thanks! Quote
iamded Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Great job here, ImperialShadows! You know, when I saw that map (or rather, the big temple on the map) I instantly thought El Dorado. Reminds me of that animated film of the same name. Anyway, these are all useful indeed, thanks! ~Peace Quote
WhiteFang Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 ImperialShadows, thanks for the maps. It looks real great, nice and most important, very useful. I am always love those printed tile maps that TLC include in their sets such as Indiana Jones, Adventurers. Giving us 4 different layouts of the same type indeed spolit us for choice. Great job! Just a question, I am not very familar with those customised things. I will hope to make use of them one day, but I am not sure how it should be implement. Thanks. Quote
Shadows Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 Just a question, I am not very familar with those customised things. I will hope to make use of them one day, but I am not sure how it should be implement. Thanks. I've never used a single one I've made. I have, however, test printed a few to see how they look, so I can sort of explain it. You need either water slide decal paper or sticker paper to use them. Having neither, I did my tests on plain paper. I loaded a few into Paintshop Pro, created a single image with a dozen of them arranged near each other, but far enough apart to be able to cut them, and then made sure it was set to print at 600dpi (dots per inch). That was it. The decals I make are designed to be the right size automatically, as long as they're printed that way. I'll admit, over time, the torso designs have varied a bit, so I can't guarantee that they're all identical. These maps, and the flags I've made, as well as all of my recent torsos are dead on. Oh, and you might notice that at full size, they look a little jagged, it's all part of the way I make them and quite intentional. It allows you to change colours without any hassle. For example, if you wanted to use water slide decal paper, you could load one of these into a paint program and change the outside tan to white to make it transparent. It's also why I work at 600dpi when a lot of customizers produce decals at 300 or less. The extra resolution makes up for the lack of smoothing (and I think it allows for more detail as well). When printed, they look like the thumbnails above, nice and smooth. Ask a simple question, get me blabbing on and on. Quote
WhiteFang Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Ask a simple question, get me blabbing on and on. Thanks you so much I will try and work on it if possible. Because, my printer is still not up to mark for producing high quality colors yet. But, I wil try to play around with the printing materials on mono-tone. At least, I am able to experiment with it. It's nice to see that you had put effort to answer my simple question. Quote
Shadows Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 Thought I'd add a few more variations, this time a bit of a departure from the originals, but still similar. Pirates/Explorers/Conquistadors Indy/Adventurers I don't know if this is the end of my mapmaking adventure, but it's fun, so I might try some more, maybe completely from scratch. Any ideas? Suggestions? Quote
