This actually is fairly similar to a "Cow & Calf" unit that the East Broad Top Railroad obtained During the late 1980's or early 1990's for use as a back-up motive power.  It was one of Plymouth Locomotive Works' more unusual creations, and it was only at the EBT for a few years before they sold it off in favor of a 3' gauge GE 44 Ton Center-cab from Algoma Steel Works, due to the fact that it caused unusually high wear on the tracks.  The "B" unit (slug) ended up getting scrapped, while the "A" unit is still in service pulling tourist trains at some zoo in the Midwest (IIRC either the Cleveland or Cincinnati zoo).  But long story short, I've actually seen a similar narrow-gauge Cow-Calf switcher arrangement very similar to what you built.

That's a very Alco look to it. If you built your train around the white and gray of the PU box then it would be easy (grin). Tiles over the side of the box could get you to a 4.8 stud wide hood. Anyway, the build itself has got a quaint look to it.

It's based on this, which is itself some Aristo-craft designer's RS3 whimsy:

Well, OK, the forum doesn't want me putting text at the beginning or the end after I've added images, so pretend this text is before the first image.  Sigh.  Anyway, here are some pictures and a couple of links of EBT M5A & B, because I was intrigued by @Laura Beinbrech's teaser.  While searching, I also ran across a diesel shay, which would be intriguing to build (if only my chops were good enough).

Metta,
