Brickadier General Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Hi all, Long time, no see. I had been pretty busy with college and whatnot, so that's pretty much why I've been MIA for awhile. If you remember, I posted my Civil War soldiers not too far back (sorry I still haven't posted more close-ups, but I'll get around to it when time allows). Anyway, making those soldiers coupled with the Civil War class I had brought me back into the Civil War theme again. If you have seem my previous 2 battlefields before, this one will be comparatively far more ambitious. And since I made the decision to go to Brickworld with some fellow PennLUG members this year I'm all the more stoked about building this. I've been working on this little by little, but I can't wait to finish it. This time around, I'm trying to pack as much detail as I can into it. When it's done, the model will cover an area of 2x4 baseplates. I've been working hard on the landscaping, adding a recessed creek (with "blood" for casualties), a "hill" to the right, and trees (lots of them). For the trees, I've made most of them using palm trunks and built them in such a way that they will not fall apart in transit. If you look, I'm trying to use a mixture between dark green, regular green and bright green. To the left of the creek, will be a confederate campsite. I'm basically going to be using the same tents I used in my old campsite. The largest tent will be a field hospital. And if you look to the right, you can see a building on fire. I used technic hole bricks to give the building the "pock mark" damage from bullets. Plus, I have just ordered an e-lite kit to help generate the "flickering" effect of the flames. I haven't gotten around to really placing my men on the model yet but will do so when I finish landscaping. I also plan on keeping this together, as I'm really happy with it and have some ideas for expanding it in the future. Well, I hope you guys like it, and I look forward to hearing your input on it. And if you're at Brickworld I'll look forward to seeing you there. Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Looks great! I'll be sure to stop by and check it out at Brickworld. I heard there are going to be 10 major clubs this year! That's crazy! See you there. Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Beautiful. The trees are so great! Wich I could go to Brickworld =) Quote
Basiliscus Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Fantastic trees by the way, the landscaping here is first class. Can't say I'm an expert on the American Civil War but looks pretty realistic to me (well, how I'd imagine it anyway)! Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 It's looking good, the landscaping is comming along very well, all of your trees are really well done. I look foward to seeing it finished, finally will the Union forces be getting a regimental flag aswell? Quote
Wout Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 That's a very nice woodland. The trees are great and I like the the brooke also. Quote
Asuka Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 A fine work with an already very charming landscaping. The house on fire looks nice, the tents´re really neat and the creek with the small bridge adds a lot to the overall pretty distinct scenery. Quote
Scouty Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 That's awesome! Great model. The trees and foliage are look very good, especially the trees. Tents are looking spiffy there! Are there going to be more men on the field? A sharpshooter in the trees? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Civil War - awesome! I can't wait to see the finished scene. Quote
WhiteFang Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Your landscaping is very impressive. I like the forest you made. It certainly can be used for Castle scenery too. Too bad, I am not able to attend Brickworld due to work and studies commintment. Good luck and I do hope to see your final art. Quote
Brickadier General Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 Thanks for the feedback, everybody. It's looking good, the landscaping is comming along very well, all of your trees are really well done. I look foward to seeing it finished, finally will the Union forces be getting a regimental flag aswell? You mean flags for Specific Regiments? Like the Irish Brigade, Louisiana Tigers? I've been thinking about doing a few to add a little more variety in the scene. That's awesome!Great model. The trees and foliage are look very good, especially the trees. Tents are looking spiffy there! Are there going to be more men on the field? A sharpshooter in the trees? Yes, I have started placing more figures in the scene. And I have been thinking about sharpshooters. There was a regiment (I don't remember the specific name) that wore dark green uniforms). I would probably use the Communist soldier minifigs from the new Indiana Jones sets, but I've spent so much on this already that I don't think I'll be buying any anytime soon. I will be placing fighting soldiers along the creek though. Quote

I look forward to seeing the final result . Quote
