The Island Chronicles Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 (edited) Inspired by the 2020 ice cream truck set and a MOC that I saw on Instagram came this build. It's actually a cross between a MOC and a MOD. It's a MOC because I created it on my own with inspiration. But it's a MOD because I got the bricks to make it from an actual Lego set. I haven't decided on whether it should be walk to or drive thru. Maybe you guys can help me decide. So without further a do, here is a picture of it. Apologies if the picture is a little blurry. Forgot to clean my camera lense before shooting the picture. Edited April 28, 2020 by Brandon Pea Quote
Pdaitabird Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Nice! That sliding window is a cool feature. Quote

Who would've know that it would be THAT easy to build an ice cream parlor from the ice cream truck set, though I had to have some help from other pieces in my Lego collection. Quote
gotoAndLego Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Very nice Brandon. I think of this as an MOC/Alternate Build because Mods are primarily the original set design with some changes. Quote

Yeah I was trying to figure out the politically correct term for this type of build because I know I used a lot of bricks from the 2020 ice cream truck, but at the same time I was making it into a different build but it provides the same service (serving ice cream to people). Thanks for that. I've just changed the title of the thread to [AB], which of course stands for "Alternative Build". Edited April 21, 2020 by Brandon Pea Quote
fordtruckin Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 (edited) I have been critical of your builds in the past but honestly I was surprised by this build. Good concept and great use of a readily available set. I can see your skill is improving as a builder. This looks like a lot of the mom and pop ice cream shops in the small towns near me. For that reason I would say make it a walk up with that large sliding window rather than a drive thru. Although I'm sure if you wanted you could easily make a drive thru on one of the sides of the building. Whichever works best for your Lego city is what you should do. Keep building and sharing! Not sure I remember you and don't try to refresh my memory because it'll just be a waste of time. LMBO But I do have to admit, that up until I saw some guide videos on how to build little shops, my building was terrible. You should've seen my horrible attempt at a post office back in 2018 But thanks to both those guide videos, some help from personal friends who are also Lego town builders and influence from current sets - I have definately improved and people on this thread seem to agree. I tried to build a uniform store just last week as well. While other people were impressed and gave me advice, I was personally unsatisfied with the build and ended up breaking it up. I mean...it was just something I made just for the brick of it. But anyway, thanks for the feedback. Its this type of feedback that encourages me to build more. This actually goes well alongside my burger bar. I'm currently making plans to make a pizza stand too. I'm thinking on whether I should do the same for the doughnut shop too. Quote
