Fraunces Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 While war is raging on in the interiors of the island of El Oleonda, some colonist were afraid the economy would collapse as normal life was now always in peril. Luckily for the Von Fraunces family (a side-branche of the Fraunces family) their busines thrived during the war! Skilled in training and breeding horses since many centuries, the family were on the first immigrant ship arriving on El Oleonda. In a relative short time they found out the island was full of wild-life, including a very strong and fertile type of horses. Maybe this was one of the reasons the Lotii tried to colonize the island? Anyhow, the Carnites proven to be a steady source of income and the family soon had enough money to expand the stable. More pictures under this spoiler. A civilian build, trying to replicate my inspiration for the stable: https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Stable_(Age_of_Empires_II)?file=Stableaok.png Spoiler Backside: The inside of the upper floor: Without minifigs: The stableboy: Training the horses: A buyer! The von Fraunces: From left to right: Sven (the woodworker & oldest son), Deborah (mother) and her baby Sophie, Karel (father), Arno (youngest son & stable-boy), in the back Thierry (oldest son) and to the right: the sharpshooter of the family Sarah. & they gotta eat right? And the Carnite forces buying horses to travel the island faster. A wild bunch.. You might remember the Sergeant from an older build of me. Thanks for watching & commenting! Quote
Pdaitabird Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 That looks great! I like the half-timbered wall section and the roof technique. Quote
Beleg the Ranger Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 The house looks great! The half-timbered construction is very well done! Minor quibble: the ground isn't that detailed, but other than that, everything looks superb! Quote
Khorne Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 What a nice build! It has a classic feel to it that I really like. You've captured the essence of the Age of Empires 2 stables well. I love that it also has a furnished interior. What I like less, are the random tiles on the roof. The 1x1 round tile and such. They contrast too much with the brown. Maybe some dark brown pieces would've worked better to add some texture, or none. Right now, they kind of look random and out of place to me. But in general I really do love the MOC! Quote
Keymonus Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 (edited) Very nice build Fraunces! I like both the idea and the building style, a very original choice for the challenge. The build, as you planned, resembles a lot a videogame style stable, I’m not a super fan of the grey and tan tiles on the roof, but the result is excellent! The only major problem, for the challenge, is the plot size: according to the rules it must be at most 32x32, so probably you’ll receive some score penalty Edited April 16, 2020 by Keymonus Quote
Darnok Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 A great build, with lots of characterful details! Loving the full interior on two levels. Also: the WTC would be interested in buying those horsies too... yummy! Quote
Legonaut Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 (edited) I really like the classic vibe of this Build and I also enjoy that rounded roof finish made out of the wedge plates. Also the type of house with integrated stables on the first floor instead of seperated stables is something I do like a lot because I did not see it before. What I'd suggest to improve is the photography by a simple sheet of paper for a better background and to avoid cut away edges if they're not obviously supposed to be like that. (Probably these minor problems are due to the size of the build what I can really understand, photographing my fort was a pain) Edited April 16, 2020 by Legonaut Quote
Sir Kingston Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Very original idea, it really has that classic Lego castle theme, in my opinion! Quote
blackdeathgr Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 (edited) Big and ambitious build (a huge plus its the interior). I like it! Family members are distinct enough and well shaped, LEGO animals looking good (on the other hand LEGO animals always look good ) and photos are aplenty. P.S: Someone got the Baracuda? Couldn't help but noticing the pig! Hehehe! Edited April 17, 2020 by blackdeathgr Quote

My excuse: not enough time for I was already too late on the deadline 22 hours ago, Khorne said: What a nice build! It has a classic feel to it that I really like. It was an experiment with spare bricks from my Barracuda Bay build, I tried to make it look realistic/more like the weathered look the videogame design has. Thanks for the honesty ! 22 hours ago, Keymonus said: Very nice build Fraunces! I like both the idea and the building style, a very original choice for the challenge. I forgot about the size completey! I reallt need to start building faster and check the rules more often , but you're a Sea Rat or not right 20 hours ago, Darnok said: A great build, with lots of characterful details! While I was building this I thought of your WTC actually! I was hoping you'd not be faster with a horse-based build 18 hours ago, Legonaut said: I really like the classic vibe of this Build and I also enjoy that rounded roof finish made out of the wedge plates. Thanks Legonaut I always get the classic vibe because I build with my before-dark-age-brick and did not invest too much in new bricks, but I like it that way . I made these photo's quickly with a mediocre camera.. I was afraid someone would notice but you are right. I did have a couple of big blue sheets of paper for this but they all perished along the way .... But thanks for the headsup anyway. 12 hours ago, Sir Kingston said: Very original idea, it really has that classic Lego castle theme, in my opinion! Thanks Sir Kingston! I tried to get the medieval vibe from the game and it is nice someone noticed 11 hours ago, blackdeathgr said: Big and ambitious build (a huge plus its the interior). I like it! I couldn't help integrating the pig but also those beautiful lantarns! The animals need more attention I think that is why this farm-based build has some of the finest LEGO-molds in them Quote
Professor Thaum Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Clever and gorgeous one ! Nice, nice house and stables nice technics and colors but a little bit too Halosian for a newly discovered island (IMHO) A wonderful build anyway. Quote
Bodi Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 A nice build, and a great rendition to the AOE's stable, you did a good job here, it looks very similar to the original one. Quote
merc Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Good job on the stable. I definitely get the Age of Empires vibe. I like the story for its creativity and it’s unique idea of what two factions would fight over. Quote

You are right to some extend, still this kind of housing was not too uncommon in the Caribbean 16-18 century.. Thanks for the kind words. 23 hours ago, Bodi said: A nice build, and a great rendition to the AOE's stable, you did a good job here, it looks very similar to the original one.
