[Update][Finished]

So, I hearby present my finished Ford Mustang Fastback.

Hope you enjoy this build and entry. I had fun building it. (There is still lots of room for improvement, but time and parts and experience are lacking)

I haven't build anything in a long time. I'm really strugling to have the will to put some beams together.

I hope this competition will bring me back some joy in building with Lego. I'm already seeing lots of great entries!

So, I want to build a Ford Mustang. It will probably use orange as base color.

Here is a detail of the back suspension. Just noticed that there isn't enough ground clearance for the wheels...

Really hate that there are not any shorter springs available. So, back to the drawing board i guess...

If you have any tips, please leave them below.

Hm...if you put shock one stud closer to differential axle?

I'll update my topic later and you can copy my solution for rear axle if you want. For me technic contests are for fun and idea sharing

The only problem is that in such shock absorber connection, absorber will bent; you have to put upper connection to the back of shock, you can see my rear axle solution for that here.

Do you have the gray (or dark gray) shock absorbers? You really don't need yellow ones here, these are way too strong for such small cars (which puts unnecessary force on the whole thing when playing with the suspension.)

Also I'm afraid the shock absorber connection will be too weak. I'd suggest to connect the top of the shock absorber to something on the chassis and then try the suspension to get an idea of weakspots.

In any case, curious to see where this will go.

Update Time:

I have done a lot of work on the chassis and the bodywork.

Parts to do:

  • Engine (almost there)
  • Hood
  • Trunk
  • Doors - this will be tricky
  • Details - part between door and hood is just to small for a panel, and it also needs to hold the sidemirrors...

Still, i'm already pleased with the result, since I haven't done some serious building in a long time.

Chassis looks good. The only thing that I do not like are LEGO fenders with this "angled" ends not fitting particularly well on classic cars...

Yes, with those fenders everything looks almost like Porsche.

I think the whole design of fenders are influenced by Porsche lines (since the 2016 when first appear), but to make classic car with them you probably need lots of playing with additional slopes (or arches). So far I did not figure out how to do it. :hmpf_bad:

I could try it with beams and flex axles, but for this model, they follow the lines of the car good enough.

Towards the top the fenders bend inwards, and so do the lego parts.

The scale and parts available limit the possibilities.

That is why I have decided to make classic hotrod...
