At the moment I'm hopeful of model with a working motor opening doors and a winch if I can do suspension it would be good but im going for more of a playable model

When you mean working motor do you mean a fake engine or an electric motor to power something ?

because in this competition you aren’t allowed any electrical powered stuff

A fake engine v8 of course maybe a 871 littlefield blower with a thunder road carbon shotgun scoop

I'd really like to keep the round headlights but no access to bricklink (we are in lockdown in nz only essential items only) either I come up with another way of doing the front grill and not have tire rub issues

After issues with steering and wheels rubbing ( worse than having 16x9's on a mx5 ). and as much as id like a v8 motor its going to have to be a straight 6..

currently 357 bricks (LDD) its a little ugly but fits the height and width of the box. ( mirrors not counted.)

Well I have managed to spend some more time on this project, Sariel's model scale pointed out a few issues and also I wanted some shape as well. please note this is not finished colours as it probably will be all black ( its the one colour I do have a lot of.. I think I will do the sides solid like a delivery van, I'm quite tempted to do a Hotwheels version with skinny's on the front a huge motor out of the hood and fats on the back..

Why, this looks really good.

Id love to do red, @Jurss or a combination ( the renders certainly can be) but simply comes down to the colours available to be ( though on the 20th NZ will find out what the levels are going to mean and if some of us are going back to work on the 23.  its no joke the whole country literally is in lock down..  black or dark grey are options.. I will have a look at others..

I wanted to use a rack and pinion front end and also get some ground clearance so back to the chassis design board again ( if anything just like building the real things.) but also I want a five year old to be able to play with this and not have any issues ( had front end sag and wheel rub..  as much as I think the mustang rims would be the way to go I really do like the pop of yellow.. how its on to the interior and functions  I do have the ability to run a drive shaft to the front and run a motor but also able to keep the winch feed to the front as well..

currently about 31 studs long 15wide not including mirrors and 16.5 high..

Well I have given up in the shed tonight as its getting way to cold for my liking ( its not snowing here but certainly down country as its blowing a cold wind of MT Ruapau tonight ) and since I have setup shop in what is my storage bay under one of the mezzanine floor there certainly is no heating nor insulation.. ( the shed is 150meters floor area and tall as I can park the k100 inside.) Any on with project mule I have certainly changed a lot from the LDD internally but the external finish as in the above rendering will be the same except for colour unless I can find parts.

however Im going to have to put my thinking cap on on how to a gearbox as I might have painted myself into a corner with heights...

Well I have sorted my gearbox issue, and its doing what I want. the frame has had another rebuild as this is going to be played with by a five year old and I want a frame that doesn't bend. I would if lego designers have FEA software to check or just use the good old fashion twist test and keep removing bits until something moves.. Any Mr technic Man made an appearance for a test fit for a bucket seat and steering setup..

800x600.jpg

This is with the small wheels on the front and large on the back, as you can run them as deep dish steels, with a bit of stance..( rake for technical terms )

640x480.jpg

The spare serves two purposes, one it covers a hole and a axle pin of the gearbox and two its the hand of god steering but also lets the winch in and out on the front..

I wonder how would the model look with smaller tires in the front and rear. I know most of us prefer models with larger wheels all round, but sometime smaller could be better.

@zux as reqested.

Mack truck tires. 49.5's

640x480.jpg

43.2's  yes if you rescaled the wheel arches to look less like you could slide a pregnant elephant between the wheel and the arch it probably would look better as the 49.5's tend to fill the arch... I can have a look later today with the physical model.. had a look it would be a half stud offset not impossible but a lot of work..

!@#$'s and giggles 37's with lowered arches..

Yeah, 49'5 might work best here after all.

I initially was going to do a 43.2 MOC that I'm still on the fence playing with but I couldn't get the shape I wanted but after seeing all these great MOC's Id like to give it a go. I still feel that its just a box on wheels though it has been quite a learning curve, just optimising the LDD now after building. 15 pieces have been replaced with 5. It's still going to be a high 800's piece MOC. I think a number of professional's could or certainly trim more parts..

Well I have changed the hood and fiddled with a few other parts, then broken the LDD into rebrickable to ensure the BOM and colours are correct and correct the LDD a few times for the record the stripes can be done in red or orange , you could even colour coordinate the rims as well.

640x480.jpg

The sub assembly's broken out I have a multi colour LDD of how it goes together.. not the most technical of builds

The build is on chassis is done and old fashion testing.

I don't have all the right parts nor colors the seats I'm going to redo and also the doors. I have made a screw up in the rear which I will fix later.

It makes it more difficult when the parts you news you don't have. So a redesign and also a fix for the hood bar as I was not happy with the movement. Redone the doors which I'm more happy with.

I like it a lot, strong with shape and it will be very playable because I think I see ackerman steering.

Yes there is Ackerman steering.
