I think themes other than city could have some awesome people packs.  Figures would likely be a little less detailed than cmf, with fewer new molds, and more repetition, but I think they could still be awesome.

Let me know which of my ideas you like, and I'd love to see people post their own ideas.

• Dungeon Adventurer Pack - Dwarf Fighter (M), Human Rogue (F), Orc Barbarian (M), Human Paladin (F), Human Monk (M), Gnome Bard (F), Human Wizard (M), Gnome Cleric (F), Elf Druid (M), Elf Ranger (F), Orc Warlock (M), Drow Sorcerer (F), kobolds x3. Builds; Beholder, Tree, Tent & Campfire

• Steampunk Pack - Inventor (M), Engineer (F), Airship Pilot (M), Airship Captain (F), Gentleman (M), Posh Lady (F), Street Urchin (M), Explorer (F), Military Officer (F), Military Officer (M), Pirate (M) x2, Pirate (F), Clockwork Soldier, Clockwork Servant. Builds; Mini Flying Machine (with flapping wings), Tinker's Bench, Clockwork owl

• Wild West Pack - Barkeep (M), Dancer (F), Sheriff (M), Deputy (F), Doc (M), Rich Dress (F), Railroad Baron (M), Prospector (F), Trapper (M), Cowboy (M) x3, Cowgirl (F) x2, Horse. Builds; Saloon Bar, Piano, Gambler's Table

• Medieval Villager Pack - Blacksmith (M), Town Crier (M), Rich Merchant (F), Tavern Keep (F), Clergyman (M), City Guard (M), Peasant Child (M), Peasant Child (F), Peasant (M) x3, Peasant (F) x3, Peasant Baby. Builds; Merchant Cart, Anvil & Forge, Well

• Harry Potter Student Pack - Ravenclaw Students x4, Hufflepuff Students x4, Slitheren Students x4, Gryffindor Students x3. (Mix 5 tall legs, 5 medium legs, 5 short legs, various hairstyles and genders) Builds;  Founder Statue, Potions Table, desk

I would love to see non-City people packs, but I understand why it's been exclusively a City thing so far. It's because, not to put too fine a point on it, cities are where you find lots of people. The point of most sizable building sets is the structures, not the minifigures...but then it looks kind of odd to have a bustling city scene with only five or six people in it. Enter the people packs, which provide a nice little "supplementary cast" (plus some more mini-builds) to flesh out the scene.

The upshot is that for a given people pack to make sense, there ought to be an active LEGO theme or sub-theme that lends itself to well-populated models. As much as I would love to see any and all of the people packs you list, there wouldn't be much that could be done with them unless LEGO also launched matching building sets. Which of course many of us would appreciate! The only one that strikes me as a little odd in that context is the Dungeon Adventurer pack--if there were a related theme, I would expect the building sets themselves to include all the appropriate minifigs, making a people pack redundant.

Out of your list, the one I see the most hope for as things currently stand is the Hogwarts Students pack. I think kids are more interested in the named characters from the movies, but AFOL Harry Potter fans would probably go for it in order to bulk up their scenes. Even better, though, might be a Diagon Alley/Hogsmeade pack, with students in their uniforms but also adult wizards in a variety of whimsical costumes, plus mini-builds related to magical shops and even a couple of creatures!

I think "people packs" for non-City themes are possible, but I doubt any of the ones you suggest that aren't tied to current themes would happen. A big part of the selling point for the people packs is to supplement the other sets in a theme... so for instance, a medieval pack might work, but only once Lego introduces a full Castle theme alongside it.

The Harry Potter idea is kind of fun, but I expect they'd vary it up more by including at least a few professors or similar figs. Part of the point of the people packs is to offer variety, so while army builders or MOCists might like getting a lot of matching uniforms, casual buyers might like at least a few professors or other characters as well.

In the same vein as your suggestions, how about a Hidden Side ghost pack? The current sets have introduced a few physical ghosts, so perhaps a Hidden Side pack could give physical form to some of the other ghosts in the app. Of course, as I mentioned before, variety is a big deal, so you could also include pale blue "Hidden Side" variants of some of the protagonists as well—Parker, J.B., and maybe another version of Jack with his hood down instead of up. Probably unlikely, but as long as we're spitballing ideas I figured I'd throw it out there.

Naturally, I'm quite fond of this idea of yours in particular...

As for what else I'd like to see, a Pulp Space Opera pack offering a medley of figures similar to RPG miniature packs would be pretty sweet to see... :purrr:

Well as long as we're just spitballing...

Fey Folk Pack--various elves, fairies, goblins, etc. Mini-builds: gnarly tree, giant mushroom, patch of flowers and crystals

Funny Animal Pack--like City, but everyone is an anthropomorphic cartoon critter. (Alternately: like Chima, but not epic fantasy whatever. Or: like Fabuland, but not obsolete)

Monster Mash Pack--All your favorite Halloween archetypes, in one place and with updated designs

100% sold on the Fae Folk Pack.

I personally would use the Dungeon Adventurers or the Fae along with some of my old castles sets/MOCs, but your point is well made about the concept working better with similar themed sets.

I think it's a good idea, and people would buy tons of them.

The previous people packs have included multiple small builds. So its not like these wouldn't come with appropriate pieces for building out a theme. For instance, toss in some transparent yellow or green windscreens and printed computers in a Classic Space people pack and people would be all over it.

I guess the question is, if LEGO isn't interested in giving us Classic themes anyway, why would they bother to give us themed people packs? I think LEGO would only go for it if they had the potential to make money. And I think they could -- people are willing to pay for minifigs. Most AFOLs who like Classic themes would see these as a godsend. For instance I bought like 15 of Benny's Space Squad.

I think this idea could pair extremely well with CLASSIC. THEMED. CREATOR. SETS.

I'd love another minifig chess set release, while not people pack, they have been the closest to a large number of Castle/Pirate/Viking Figures in a single set.

https://brickset.com/sets?query=chess set

  • 2005 - Knights Kingdom
  • 2006 - Vikings
  • 2007 - Castle (skeletons)
  • 2008 - Castle Giant Chess Set
  • 2009 - Pirates
  • 2012 - Kingdoms
  • 2015 - Pirates

2017 , no minifigures, and still sold now.

Surprised they didn't do a Ninjago chess set at all, and that theme has been going for nearly 10 years.

Other then that, yes I would prefer themed people packs 100%, hopefully Ninjago Gamers market was a start of more to come, also for other themes.

Although often associated with Star Wars, they have done loads of such battle packs in the past, and these are essentially smaller (4/5 minifigures) versions. They tend to be tied into the current themes of course. Dwarves, knights, pirates, skeletons, trolls, etc. Plus they did them for in-house one-off themes such as Alien Conquest and Pharoah's Quest, and also for Ninjago, Chima, etc.

One thing about these types of packs is that they are essentially lots of minifigure parts from existing current themes, with nothing or little new in them.

Something a little closer to City I'd like to see for People Packs would be some representation for recent decades past. It'd be incredible if City released packs made up of average urban citizens straight outta the 1920's, 1930's, 1940's, 1950's, and so forth, as the Collectable Minifigure theme's focus on occupational archetypes limits it from giving us those everyday folk that aren't necessarily defined by their occupation.

First of all, i really like the idea of non-city people packs.

An easy way to have some connection with other sets is the creator line. A build of a dragon, a windmill, a pulpy spaceship, things like that. I think it will sell very well, plus it will boost the particular creator sets. Pay attention Lego! Free great ideas overhere!

The fantasy, western and pulp space packs are my personal favorites.

additional ideas:

- circus people pack

- cemetery pack (ghouls and ghosts)

- mythological gods pack

Perhaps supplementary People Packs to accompany such Creator sets could be sold under the Xtra line? :shrug_oh_well:

P.S. I'll take ten of those Three-In-One Pulp Rocketship sets now thank you very much... :excited:

It's sad because these niches used to be filled by the CMF line at one time but the last few series seem to be stubbornly City-centric with only a few bones tossed in for historical, space and fantasy/mythology fans here and there. If Lego would consider ideas like this it would be amazing! I'd certainly buy!

Yes! My town/train layout is set in the early 20th century (because, you know, steam engines) and it's hard to find "civilian" minifigures that fit the time period. Adventurers minifigures work chronologically, but I don't want every Tom, Dick, and Harry to look like they're geared up for an expedition!

I guess the problem here is how do you differentiate a 1920s dress from a 1940s dress from a 1980s dress from a 2020s dress?

What era is this LEGO dress from?

When you have fixed sizes, recreating different styles is going to be difficult.

I wouldn't mind lots of different colours, even if the style is not era specific.

Well, in that case, I don't think it'd be wise to release multiple People Packs each based upon consecutive decades all in one wave, as they'd instead successively follow-up the themed Pack from the previous year with one themed after the following decade (i.e. the 1920's one year, the 1930's for the next, and so forth)...
