1998 theme concept art - Dino Racers and Hero Knights

Stumbled across this several months ago, thought maybe some folks here would find it curious:

All the art there is under one post for Dino Racers, but on his website he lists them as two separate concepts, the other being "Hero Knights":

Pretty outlandish designs for the time but much more in line with the sort of action themes and vehicle sets you'd expect today.

Whoa...  ...is this the first time the AFOL community has ever heard of these two concept themes?

What a great find! I have so many questions about these. Most of all, I wonder if this was something in actual active development, or if LEGO just commissioned ideas from people? These definitely look like a preliminary concept art stage of design.

If these were taken further at the time, perhaps they would've been System/Slider hybrids? In a way, that is what we've gotten to today, with so many dragons, mechs, etc. combining LEGO system parts with Bionicle-type limbs and connections.

Wow... The DIno-Racers seemed like a pretty cool concept! I would really like to see this concept revisited some day!
