DonRamon1981 Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 This is Lieutenant Carling's Ship, the brand new HMS Annettania. Stats: Crew: Lieutenant Carling, 4 Soldiers Big Cannons: 1 (movable to all sides) Small Cannons: 2 (one each side but movable so up to 2 small cannons ready to open fire in the same direction) Weapons: 4 Muscets, 2 Sabres Ship: 3 small parts, front back and one middle hull part. One Cabin small with one door and two small windows at the back, two big each side. Big stairs. Caravel like Chritoph Columbus' Santa Maria. Space for about 12 barrels (before the cabin and under the front is a lot of space) Soldiers: young and inexpierenced, but the best fighters of their class. High profile snipers. Lieutenant Carling: young and inexpierenced like his crew, extremely smart and also a very good sniper, quick decisions but aggressive warfare. Shoots first, then asks. But is good and quick at learning. High hopes of calming down when maturing. Has been always the best in his class. Quote
Darnok Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 Great looking little ship. I especially like how it looks "like a Lego set", yet at the same time is clearly your own invention. Well done! The chosen clours work well, the only odd choice to me are the brown (wooden?) chains at the front. I didn't even know these chains were made in brown. I guess it's supposed to represent wooden ornaments? I just can't shake off that thought of "why the heck are the anchor chains brown?"... Overall a really pretty ship, and a fine addition to Corringtons fleets! Quote

Overall a really pretty ship, and a fine addition to Corringtons fleets! Thank you! Yeah it was planned as a set with all quality for a real lego set, but unfortunately it eats up all our newer lego parts, as we have 99% of 1980s Bricks. The brown chains are not for the anchor, it's just a design element like the yellow lines like a lot of ships had. That's why I decided it to keep it in brown as their are not classic chains as more of a design element similar to HMS Victory with their yellow chains/lines up front. I build that in first place as a newer version of the RenegadeRunner, made it into a caravel and finally to my characters ship. The cannons I need since it's now a soldiers ship instead. Thanks again, appreciate it as you guys building with new parts and, most builds are wonderful designed, real awesome. For that I appreciate it even more that you like that Ship. Quote
Littleworlds Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 Nice and nimble looking. It definitely has character - and a good one! I would make the cabin one brick lower though. It is quite tall compared to the deck and makes the ship a bit unbalanced. Quote

Yeah I thought the same way but the original ship / see picture, is even more "unbalanced" and have a even higher back. So sticking to my inspiration the cabin should also been even higher. Also the front higher. I tried that higher front and back, but in Lego that looked just ugly. I wanted to lower the cabin, but as you see I would have to let out the black stones that makes the effect of being thinner on top. They are 3 bricks high, so I had to put a stone under the windows to higher them up for the black stones that covers the top of the windows. Without leaving at least one of that stones out I can't lower the cabin. But I want the effect and the top of the windows. I have no clue how I can replace them without losing the effect I want to. Here is some overview what I have, my availability of bricks... Black Monarchs Castle from 1988, the Falcon Castle of 1986, the Kings Castle from 1985, and a lot of other stuff from this area in Space and City too. Other parts came with the introduction of Pirates in 1989 and have a lot of them as I have four ships of the first two waves, all except the ugly Skulls Eye Schooner. Open for suggestions ;-) Quote
Littleworlds Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 Yes, I see. The original is indeed quite tall. About the slopes: You could try 2-high slopes instead, which would require bricklink or so to get them, or maybe make the railing on the upper deck lower, like it was on the Black Seas Barracuda. Compromises, compromises - but this way of puzzle to get the look right is also part of the fun with Lego, isnt it? Oh, i just remembered, you try the rectangular 2-high windows from the Hogwarts great hall. They should not be too expensive to get. Quote

Okay yeah I will see what I can or want to do, the smaller black parts I have to search in the Lego brick store on Berlin. I don't buy then online as I can get them for cents at the store, and it's like my challenge to not buy too much, cause with all parts I want and buy them makes it too easy. But that's just me ;-) Can you please explain me what you mean with Hogwards Windows and stuff? I stopped Lego in about 1994, and when my son started to love lego, the only sets I bought a the three newer ships from 2009, 2010 and 2015. I don't follow the rest of the Lego at all, as it's really not my type of toys. I mean all that Ninjago, Nexo Knights and the rest... So I really have no clue what happened between 1994 and 2019 in other themes than pirates. Edited August 24, 2019 by DonRamon1981 Quote
Littleworlds Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 Oh, I see! Yes, I try to avoid getting too many specific parts for my projects as well. Mostly standard pieces and bricks and challenge myself a bit with finding building solutions. I meant this set here. It comes with a lot of these windows and is really a charming building. Even for a non-Harry-Potter-fan like myself. Quote
DonRamon1981 Posted August 24, 2019 Author Posted August 24, 2019 You are right looks good. But that window parts look really rare, i don't remember that I ever seen that parts in the Lego Brick Store. But as I really don't know lego sets for the last 25 years, i can be dead wrong ;-) But I will keep watching for them, they really could fit and lower the cabin about one brick. Thx a lot Quote
Bregir Posted August 25, 2019 Posted August 25, 2019 I like this little ship and her lines are definitely reminiscent of the one in the picture (Columbus' Santa Maria?). As Darnok said, it also has the style of an official set, while still being clearly your own design. In BoBs, we have many different styles, and you will often be able to recognise the builder of a ship just by seeing the pictures! Everyone has their own style, and every style its own merits. So far, I quite like yours, and will be looking forward to seeing the adventures of the HMS Annettania! Fair winds! Quote

It is Columbus' Santa Maria on the picture and my inspiration. Quote
