Hello everybody!

Here is my third poll:

I thought it would be interesting to know which cars we City fans on EB prefer - cars with or without doors. So I decided to open this poll.

(I hope that there hasn't been a poll for this topic before - I only have in mind that there was one about how wide the cars should be - but let me know if I am wrong.)

Thank you for your votes and I'm very interested in which you'll vote for! :classic:

Comments and feedbacks according to how useful you think this poll is and how you like(d) it are welcome!

Cars with doors. It's just logical, they look neater, and doors add to playability and displayability. If you prefer them without doors, I'd love to know why. :sweet:

Cars have got to have doors-i've never favored the 'Dukes of Hazard' approach!!

I'm not sure why TLC stopped using them - There's been several topics on here showing very early vehicles with doors.

Doors on.... I never´ll understand why TLC stopped to provide us with them, especially since they´re very easy to incorporate

into the design of today´s official LEGO vehicles, and they shouldn´t be that pricey too....:cry_sad:

Hmm obviously not every one likes em How could you NOT like doors? its like an ordering a ice cream cone and you only get the cone! like missing out on the best part! ANYWAY i prefer cars with doors i wish TLG starts doing it again soon :classic::wub:

Definitely with doors! I mean it's just more realistic. The more details, the better. Didn't like the <insert that tiresome argument> cars much. And I don't like detailed cars either as long as they don't have doors.

Definately with doors It adds some realism and more playability. Without doors, only if the construction doesn't allow them (I.e. sidepipes, making the door 2-wide, instead of the 3-wide needed, as with my hotrod-MOC)

Defintely, Cars with doors! I love the old car doors that have hinge. The recent set in 2006 with doors attached to a car is the Doctor's Car. This is the only set which have such features recently.

Below is the image. I strongly feel that cars with doors are more logical :classic:

Of course I prefer cars with doors, too, since they look much nicer, ensure more playability and look more realisitc.

I don't understand why TLG stopped including doors in the cars since the most cars and vans TLG produces at the moment would have place for doors  ?!

I'd guess they got rid of doors to allow more variety in vehicle design.

Notice how all the old cars use the same doors and windscreens and roof pieces in the same combo?

Look at the recent Doctors Car example, it does have doors, but they are rendered pointless by that new sloping windshield piece, where the side portions of the glass reach back and cover the door openings anyway (minifig cant actually get out via those doors)

So at that rate, I can see that vehicle being just as well without them.

Maybe if they came up with some windshields that would actually work well with doors, or some kinda door that has a window glass on it, then it'd work out...

but this gets into a bad pattern of either, generic design cliche` for vehicles, or a whole bunch of new specific-use door/window parts...

Id rather have wider availability of vertical hinge pieces (maybe a smaller one too)... for making custom doors

i like 'em with doors. i mean if they dont have doors, its a general lee. i mean how are you going to climb over the doors in a semi cab? i mean honestly. lego has it on pick a brick a brick, and on LDD, so they should include them in the city sets.

It's a no-brainer! Like others have stated, doors are almost a necessity for a car of any size. Lack of doors is the only real problem I have with current LEGO City. However, I can live with my minifigs getting around Duke style or popping off the roof (Not reccomended in 1:1 scale). Little details like doors and good cockpits do make the difference between a 7 or 8/10 and a 9 or 10/10. Basically I can settle with either, but doors are recommended. Never forget, though, that a well-made car without doors will always trump a poorly slapped-together jalopy with them.

Cars without doors? Wouldn't the minifig fall out?

But seriously, TLC actually did even have a recent set with the car doors, though not used for a car; Dwarves' Mine used four tall car doors in dk. green to make the mine carts.

OK, when you´re into 5-wide cars, it´s sometimes hard to add doors.

I agree in that some cars look better with doors, but not all, because that empty space above it just look ugly.

It looks good on cabs, though.

I like doors and they add a nice bit of detail on vehicles, but they're more of a decoration than anything functional. The minifigs can never actually go through the doors without also lifting the roof.

Although I never liked how the doors had no windows above them. I would much rather have fully enclosed vehicles (which have been rare) without doors than open vehicles with them.

Maybe if they came up with some windshields that would actually work well with doors, or some kinda door that has a window glass on it, then it'd work out...

I believe some very old doors in the 70s actually had clear windows above them, but I haven't seen them in any sets after that.

Cost would be my first guess. Doors are fiddly little things to make compared to either bricks or panels...

I was so pleased when I got this car and that it had doors. It would have been nice if more 2006 onwards sets included doors too! I would pay an extra few pence for them! :classic:

My only other recent set with doors is the XXL Mobile Crane but I'm not sure I can get away with describing that as a car...

Doors all the way!!

Cheers
