Tacitus Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Hi all. I typically find that with many official LEGO sets, the original model is cool, whether in concept or form, but it doesn't always go that extra step. The Mistlands Tower and the King's Castle are two good examples. The tower was a neat idea, especially with the blacksmith, but the model made no sense. The King's Castle was a cool model, but it had some design flaws. So, last summer, I decided to put the two together to see what I would get. I got something that I like to think of as the King's Citadel. At the core, it is still basically the King's Castle, but I added two floors to the central tower, and a stairway that leads from the ground level up to the second floor throne room. Anyway, I thought I'd post it here before I take it apart. Take a look: Come on in: Blacksmith in his tower: Second and third floors, with door leading into King's room: Surly king: And the two levels are modular, for easy access to the ground floor, and the King's chamber. So, here's a shot looking into the King's chamber. Oh yes, complete with trap door. The Wizard's room connects to the King's room, which has been removed here: Anyway, here's the link to the rest of the images: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=316246 Enjoy! Tacitus. Asuka Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 That´s a pretty solid and huge constructions, I especially like that trap door in front of the throne.... a real classic! Quote
Vaders_son Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Hey I like your building and would like to see the rest of the pictures in your gallery - but it's not public yet. Thought you might change it to public Best regards, Benny Quote

Since I'm new to the whole Brickshelf thing, I'm not sure how long the turn around time is. Quote
iamded Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Neat! I like the idea of mashing two sets together, and though I wouldn't expect these to be ones of choice, they actually look quite nice together. The only thing I dislike is the black walls among all the grey and blue, but the solid, busy look of it makes up for that! I also like the modular-ness of it, and those Brick Forge stuff look great on that KK guy! ~Peace Quote

As I said, nice MOC and I love your little details like the blacksmith (it is a blacksmith is it not?) and so on. Great job Benny Quote

I also like the modular-ness of it, and those Brick Forge stuff look great on that KK guy! ~Peace Thanks! The black walls were actually the original pieces for the King's Castle, which was that "legendary" set they put out a few years ago as the KK line was winding down. I think LEGO was trying to go retro with the black walls, and pay homage to the old Black Monarch's castle. The mash-up turned out better than I expected, although it ain't perfect for sure. I tried to limit it to just the pieces found in those two sets, which is why the upper level blacksmith has both a black and a dark green floor. Mistlands Tower was certainly an odd ball set, but I thought that the "crystal ball level," the magic-shield blacksmith and the cool front gate had to be kept in some way. I find that I don't have a lot of time to MOC, so I end up either combining sets, or MODing them, as I did with the Dwarf Mine... although that one got so big that it probably crossed over from MOD to MOC. Ok then sorry for my beeing unpaitient(sp?).It's open now and I looked through your pictures. As I said, nice MOC and I love your little details like the blacksmith (it is a blacksmith is it not?) and so on. Great job Benny Thanks! Yep, it is a blacksmith. Two, actually. There is the one on the ground floor who is the original LEGO blacksmith dwarf from the King's Castle, and the magic-shield making blacksmith on the upper level. He came from the Mistlands Tower set. The way I see it, the little guy on the ground floor is the blacksmith for the knights, etc., and the other blacksmith is the King's private arms maker, and probably an alchemist, too. Quote
