ks6349 Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 (edited) The maximum area of place I can have for my lego town is 150cm x 50cm, since I am living in a small city too What do you think I can put to create my small town? Should I avoid road plate and use something otherwise instead? Any suggested plan Edited July 8, 2019 by ks6349 Quote
Littleworlds Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Hello ks, this sounds similar to the space I have planned for my own city-display, which will basically be modular buildings (like the assembly square) and MOCs with a similar footprint side by side, as a single row of buildings basically. This way I get some pavement-space for minifigs (which is part of the baseplates of the modulars anyway) and have the rest of the shelf as road. Maybe not the most elaborated setup but easy to rearrange and accessible. Quote

I used to have a city like that, but since getting more Modulars, I focused it on a downtown area. Quote
Pdaitabird Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 Another possibility for a confined space is to build in a smaller scale. Here is a topic dedicated to "midi-scale" town builds. Quote
Driver Brandon Grumman Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 (edited) I just put some houses in my town. You should start your town with houses. Edited September 1, 2019 by pooda Quote

Vindicare Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Just now, KotZ said: Or if you can't build out, build up? True, that works too. It’s a fair bit of work though. If I had a more permanent spot for my town, I’d probably go up...I have a lot of buildings that had to be taken out in favor of the Modulars. Quote

Gomek Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 Build up and not out. It's not as fun as having a sprawling city, but a multi-level display case or shelving unit would solve a lot of space issues AND provide a natural break between city folk and country folk. Quote
HereWeGoAgain Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 For small footprint cities, small brick city Youtube channel has some great ideas, check it out. Quote
SollX Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 you can use 16x16 roadplates to make a single one way road so you have more room for buildings. Quote
gotoAndLego Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 (edited) As other s have said, build up not out. Consider staring with a subway loop and then build your city on that. I do think its good to have a structural plan behind your buildings, for example if you look at Ninjago City and all the fan built extensions there is a common structure to the buildings as far as the water level and second level walkway. Building small can be parts intensive if you don't want it to look simple (not that there is anything wrong with Classic Town), but detailed small buildings are super cool. I found this person a while back as a really good example of it. Another benefit to building small is that it is easier to swap parts out for newer buildings. If you still want to have a street, consider building one instead of using road plates, as it can be smaller. https://www.flickr.com/photos/at94/ Also, Ninjago City/Docks are great examples of small dense buildings. MAB Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 1.5m x 1.5m is 6x6 baseplates, so a decent area. For example, you can have three parallel 8 stud (one way) roads with 4 stud pavements/sidewalks running down the joins of rows/plates 1+2, 3+4, and 5+6. That still gives a build area of 24x32 on each plate if you go back to back between plates 2+3 and 4+5, and you have 36 plates so 36 separate buildings. If some houses are only 16 wide, then you can increase further. Quote
Driver Brandon Grumman Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 Houses are done. Now I'm adding some emergency services such as a hospital, coast guard hq, fire department and police station. Quote
