Hey, everyone. Looks like TLG will be changing the look and function of their VIP program very, very soon. We will have to redeem codes online to get discounts and rewards in store. Does anyone know or think that we will get to keep the 100$ -> 100 points -> 5$ reward system? When TLG announced the changes last year, I believe they mentioned the new system would come out in June 2019. What do you all think of the changes? What are you hoping for?

They did a survey a while ago about what VIP members wanted.

Personally, I'd like them to get rid of the discounts and instead have exclusive items that you can exchange points for (or have both). I'd prefer an exclusive poly or minifigures instead of £5 / $5 off.

Yes and no. They won't take away those discounts, but personally I'm hoping they'll make them more meaningful and add other ways to score VIP points. The way the system currently is it's pretty much useless.

I think it's pretty neat to have a 5% discount (or 10% when X2 points) on everything on the store. Granted, you can find most sets discounted at 20% and beyond at Toys R Us, Walmart, Target and other stores, but for big exclusives that rarely go on sale, a 5% - 10% discount is still a neat reward.

Of course, the VIP system could be doing so much more, so I'm looking forward to what TLG has to offer.

Depends, I guess. In fact the whole point should probably be to get people to buy stuff directly from LEGO's online or physical stores in the first place, which in my view isn't so much a matter of price (though out of necessity I'm extremely price aware and try to get stuff as cheaply as possible). To me it's more a case of not being able to score meaningful amounts of points unless you spend a small fortune in the store, so there's just no motivation (aside from a million technical quirks with the online store). Or more to the point: They need to work on making this attractive for "ordinary" people, not just for buyers of expensive exclusive sets.

I like the discount system because I buy a lot at at Bricks‘n‘Pieces and also from the PAB wall if available. The VIP points are then used to buy sets directly at LEGO. Otherwise I wouldn‘t buy sets directly from then. ;-)
