Should be able to do it for around $500 all in. That depends heavily on how many pieces you already have in your collection.

I paid slightly more, but there were a couple of reasons for that:

- I wanted to have visible parts in “new” shape. A lot directly from LEGO Pick-a-Brick

- I purchased 3D printed wheels

- I had relatively expensive electronics (FXBrick, sounds, lights and 3rd party battery although not expensive)

- parts where ordered in EU where it might cost a bit more?

Had a chance to run my Big Boy at BrickWorld 2019 in Chicago. Took quite a few videos. Thought you guys would enjoy! By the way, I have a set of side rods for sale if anyone is interested in building their own and haven't purchased a set yet. Man, I think I have an idea for a christmas present for myself! Actually I can't decide between this and the Neuschwanstein Castle. Does anyone have a picture of this next to an emerald night or other official set? I'd love to see the comparison

Sorry for the bump, but I have a question. I've bought the instructions the other day along with all the parts, besides the rods. It says that there are instructions for the full gear set, but I don't know where to find them? And what all pieces do I need to buy?

I haven't updated them yet. My entire LEGO collection was demolished on my cross country move and it has taken me the better part of 6 months to even get back to a position to where I can begin to build again. The instructions for the full valve gear will be updated by the anniversary date.
