I've been working on my Bugatti set for awhile now with several setbacks.  I have had to start over about 3 times now so I don't want to have do start over again if I don't have to.  I just finished book one and the engine does not work.  Does this come together some time later on, or did I miss something?

The engine should work after book one. Just a few questions first to get the obvious stuff out the way.

Is the 3 position switch the the centre console in drive, reverse or neutral?

Are you turning all four wheels to test the engine or do you not yet have the wheels attached, and you are turning just one brake disk (which will just cause the opposite wheel/brake disk to turn backwards due to the differential and wont turn the engine)?

Are you aware that due to the overly complex nature of the gearbox there is quite a lot of backlash in the system, which means that when the car is complete you have to roll it forward some distance before the engine starts turning?

Did you test the gear shift mechanism to confirm that all 4 drive rings were being moved by the 2 orange cylindrical cam pieces (wave selectors) in the correct sequence?

Do you have any gears left over/spare/unused?

Thank you for the help.  This has been driving me crazy, but I think I may have nailed it finally.  I was not turning all four wheels at once, I turned the front then the back wheels.  I did not know that lego was that complex, lol.  This morning I woke up before 7am with it bothering me.  I moved the gear shift back, pushed the car forward and.........IT WORKS!!!!!
