Hey, everyone, I need some help, please. Today, I went to test a train, but my 8879 Speed Controller, after new batteries, wouldn't light up, control the train anything. Might something have died? It's just been in my closet. LEGO has them in stock still, so I bought two more, but I wouldn't mind fixing the original...

Ok thats something new and intresting. mine never had this problem. i've had mine sitting in storage after I I moved to 9v metal track 3 years ago and it still works fine. But sadly my receiver broke. It was a V1 of course because of lego you cant really buy the V2 one from lego directly. That was before i discovered bricklink. I also broke the one before it and as i broke my last receiver i thought screw you lego im moving to 9v matal rails. Never had something blow up again! But anyways you have a really intresting problem! You could try and clean the batterie contacts a bit (dust them of a bit) or have your previous batteries started leaking please post some pictures so we can investigate your problem further.

Make sure you have not got the small black pole change over switch accidentally in the middle position. I have been caught out with this issue before.

i dont think that it is the pole reverser switch because the light also lights up in this position.

as far as your picture goes i cant see anything wrong with it sorry. There are possibly two models of the train remote with mine the light always lights up whenever a button is pressed or one of the two dials is turned!

Don't think so.

When the LED does not light up, the remote does not send anything.

[Even when it lights up, it may send wrong messages: After >years< of exposure to sun light, dust, high and low temperatures I found that the "lubricant" ensuring good contact of the dial's metal pieces with the PCB inside the remote simply degraded. Cleaning that stuff off (ethanol), and applying carefully (!) WD40 or the like, reanimated all controls properly.]

But your problem is different, as there is no light.

OK - the works (I know … don't get me wrong) batteries oriented correctly? If so, mind opening the remote up?

Best,
Thorsten
