I've almost run out of ships I'd like to build at the 1:400 scale I've been working with, so I decided to start a smaller scale to increase my options!

The Geist is the command ship of General Hera Syndulla, as seen in the Hope Dies comic arc.  While it may be a different model, the art in the comic is ambiguous enough that I feel comfortable making it a variant of the MC80 with additional command bridges for fleet coordination.

1:1250 scale
120 studs long
4178 pieces

The ship has a full interior.  It features a bridge, briefing room, armory, and hangar.  However it will be shown off at a later date, alongside some figure designs for Numa and Hera's crew from the comic.

I have been following your progress on Flickr and WOW WOW WOW!!! LEGO Mon Cala cruisers are what we needed!
I'm so glad you and Raskolnikov are building them. They are not easy, but you guys are making it possible and also very good looking!

I have also seen your initial renders/WIP of the interior and I love it. Looking at these pics right now, it is impossible to tell where the top comes off for the interior play feature. Which is amazing, because right now it looks like just an exterior model. I also adore the slight curves in the front, I'll have to study these closely to see how you built that.

I'm looking forward to full interior pics!

Thank you!  Raskolnikov's WIP pics were definitely a big help and inspiration, as well as pretty much any Mon Calamari MOC made so far.  Never attempted curves like this so I tried to study up, and even so they were pretty stressful!  I'm really glad the final design turned out well, I have a few more very curvy ships planned (mostly from the Halo franchise, though Star Wars too).

Wow, those colors! Any hope of instructions? ^^

I actually recorded the entire building process!  Planning to release the recording sped up alongside the interior, shouldn't be more than a month from now at most.  Proper instructions will come at a later time, but are definitely planned.

I feel you on this. I just recently attempted a slightly curvy fighter (Blue Ace from Star Wars: Resistance) and if it weren't for the coffee, I wouldn't have been able to do it. My head still hurts from it!

Now I feel ready to take on more curvy ships, perhaps something that rarely has been attempted before... But not anytime soon. Don't you just feel tired after building big and complex MOCs?

Great build! I am pretty sure it can't be done much better in this scale. All the new colours released by lego really help in making this patchy surface. Actually, it might be even better with few studs randomly scattered here and there, but that's minor!

This looks amazing! Mon cala ships are hard to build but I think you've done well with the curves. Looking forward to seeing the interior!

Oh yes absolutely!  Gonne need to do a few less complex models before I'm up to something like this again for sure.

Thank you both!  I can definitely see a few studs here and there adding to the look

I reckon it is no easy task to decide upon the color distribution to create this patchy worn out splotchy paint surface. I would love to hear your comments on how did you approach that. Really cool model, that's for sure. I like that it doesn't go crazy with some compound angular attachments and unorthodox mountings for each curved brick, but it still manages to blend together quite smoothly. Looks like a solid build!

Thank you!  To figure out the colors I actually found some pictures of the Star Wars Armada model, which has similar paint to what I was going for, and increased the saturation to make it easier for me.  Then I just went back and forth between the picture and model coloring in the sections that needed it.

Nicely done, the Mon-Calamar-aissance continues!

Good idea, since there don't see to be many decent reference pics of the two Mon Calamari studio models. Did ILM blow them up for the Death Star superlaser scenes?

Tell me about it, luckily the models in the new SWBF games are supposedly made from scans of the original studio models.  Had to download a ripped model just to get a good look at the ships underside.
