Feuer Zug Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 With LEGO now producing a number of polybag accessory sets, what would it take to run the idea of doing a train themed one with 8 wheels, 4 axles, 4 axle holders, 2 bogey plates, and 2 couplers? Sure, it wouldn't be the cheapest, but it would provide a parts pack to do some MOC work on one's own. Maybe throw in a signal light to give it some flair. Forgive me if this isn't the proper place or I'm going crazy. Quote
Pdaitabird Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 So essentially a modernized version of 3737-1? That would be fantastic! Quote
Lyichir Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 I think if there were a set like this it would have to include a train base as well to attach the bogeys to—otherwise it would mostly only benefit the kind of hardcore train fans who already have extra bases to attach them to (something builders are unlikely to obtain except from other train sets since they only rarely appear in non-train sets). Including a base would increase the size and price but it feels like it would be necessary to expand the audience by allowing the set to serve as a true "gateway" to building your own trains. I also think that, given the size, a boxed set might make more sense than a polybag. Quote

Yes, a modernized version of 3737. Without the big train base plate, I could see removing the bogey plate and adding some small turntables. Make it cheaper and small enough to be a polybag. And the "gateway" is the idea. I have built some plate based frames with a technic plate to attach the bogey plate to, but others use the small 2x2 turntable. Either would be an option. Cost would go down without the added plate. zephyr1934 Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 If lego is not going to provide an AFOL train set, redoing the train accessories bags would be an excellent thing to do. Though it would almost certainly eat in to the normal train sales since it would reduce the resale value of parting out. I suspect the magents would be the most expensive bit for lego rather than the train baseplate. Quote
JopieK Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Well if you take part in Lugbulk, I always do through 1000steine. This year we did not select a lot (in fact only some windows) of train parts but in previous years I got a considerable amount of them. That at least helps :) Quote
XG BC Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 I would like such a set too i because can see that with my small cusin he always wants more cars but lego doesnt have seperate cars. This point is really annoying. XG BC Quote

XG BC Yeah, and knowing the kids are target for Lego, and considering how they lean towards smaller, 2 axle cars, it would make sense for it to not contain any bogie plates... XG BC Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 yep but if it has 4 weels it also has to have 4 couplings (of course considering it has no boogie plates). XG BC Quote
