Vader Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 For the last few days i have been trying to do a new face and hairpiece for the joker from The Dark Knight, so far i have come up with what's below. The face is a custom decal and i have tried to mix the proper joker fig with the look shown in the movie, the hair piece is a custom that i have been working on. So far i'm very happy with the hair but still feel the face needs work, so suggestions plese. Quote
SirNadroj Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Wow, great! I personally like the face and hair, and wouldn't change em', but if you wanted to change the face, maybe make the mouth bigger/wider? I like the eyes, though, don't change them! Quote
Tarfful Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Wow great work Vader! You just about made a perfect version of the mix between cartoonish Lego style Joker and TDK Joker. My only suggestion would be that the eyes are to big, try making more of a dark smudge around the eyes to get that TDK Joker feel. -Tarfful Quote
MrCustomizer Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) Sweet! I really like him! the only thing I would change is the mouth. You should move it down a little tiny bit, and make a little bigger. I love the hair! good work! Oh and by the way, the Aayla Secura in your signature is amazing. Can you perhaps give some bigger pictures? Thx. Edited April 17, 2008 by MrCustomizer Quote
JimBee Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 AHHHH! when i clicked on this topic, i was gonna say "nice job" but when i saw it, i freaked out. quietly. thats one scary joker! great job on the face, but the hair is a little wierd. i still have to give you credit though, hair is hard to make! cant wait for the movie to come out. and i agree with MrCustomizer, your aayla is amazing! you made it, right? it looks alot like the one in my sig. great job! Asuka Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Sorry, no suggestions from me.... Both, the hair and the face, looks just marvelous. Quote
Belloq Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Nice job, the Joker looks pretty close to Heath's (RIP ) interpretation. However, the only thing bothering me is the fact that I feel eyes and mouth are bit too close together. Quote
Hinckley Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I saw this on Brickshelf and was hoping you would post it here. It looks really great! The hair is a masterpiece. I really like that a lot. From what I remember you are a sculpey user, correct? Do you sand it down? It looks smooth and I can't ever make out any finger prints with your recent work. If you are sanding, what type of paper are you using? I use Testors... The face looks great, but I think the only problem might be the eyes are too big for the mouth. The Joker's mouth is supposed to be grotesque and wide but it looks almost normal size compared to those big ole anime eyes. I think reducing the size of the eyes may solve a lot of what you don't like about it. Moving the eyes further away from the mouth may also help. Faces are tricky in my experience. I haven't had a lot of luck with them yet, but I'm getting there, IMO. What program do you use for the decals? I have a great face template for Illustrator if you'd like to use it. If you match the layout of the standard LEGO face and then exaggerate it from there, it might improve the results. Anyway, great work. Thanks for sharing. It's a very cool fig! Quote
SirScottLego Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 My word that's terrifying! Great work. Quote
iamded Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 That's awesome! The hair is done really well, and looks fantastic! My only suggestions would be to make the eyes a little smaller, they look a tad big there. And the mouth a bit bigger. ~Peace Quote
hollisbrick Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Thats so kool great work So detailed and very scary It's almost like he's looking at me and about to jump out of the screen and..and...OMG *mufled cries* Thats so kool great work So detailed and very scary It's almost like he's looking at me and about to jump out of the screen and..and...OMG *mufled cries* Quote

For some reason i always make them too big, no idea why Oh and by the way, the Aayla Secura in your signature is amazing. Can you perhaps give some bigger pictures? Thx. Don't have any other pics i'm afraid, but ill post some at some point. cant wait for the movie to come out. and i agree with MrCustomizer, your aayla is amazing! you made it, right? it looks alot like the one in my sig. great job! The Aayla isn't mine i'm sorry to say, it's someone elses design. However the Vos and Vader in my sig are both my designs which were then printed directly onto a lego fig, so in other words they are the same as regular lego figs and can't be damaged like other customs. I use a product reffered to as Green Stuff, it's used mainly for models etc. It's very flexible and will not break even when dropped from a great height (i know this as i dropped a fig from a second floor window once ), it costs alittle more than most puttys but it's well worth it. What's also great is that it dosen't need any sanding, it's just really smooth to use. I use Coral Draw for all my decals, it's a great programme and gives tons of extra options. The pic i posted isn't the best i'm sorry to say, the face also has patches of little flesh showing through. But the flash on my camera seems to have made that really hard to see, anyway thanks to all and i shall be posting a newer version soon. Quote
JoeMI6 Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Fantastic work as always Vader. You've really captured the essence of Heath Ledger's Joker. One gripe, and I think it's been mentioned already - the eyes. They work great, especially for a Lego interpretation, but if you wanted a bit more realistic look, then maybe you could try fading some of the dark around the eyes, sizing them down a bit, and maybe adding a bit of a bloodshot effect. Also, the hair is a great job considering it's rather hard to get the faded dye look using the green stuff. Great job, keep it up! Quote

Siegfried Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I don't like it when someone makes a great version of something that I don't like very much! (I don't like the new Joker look.) Even so, it's beautiful work! I also think the eyes are a bit big, but overall the head looks very professional. I wonder if Lego will make a new head for the movie sets... The hair is great work too. Quote
The Joker Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Not bad, still needs some work though and I fell the eyes are too close to the mouth and the red lips is not big enough. Kepp up the good work though. Quote

The hair is great work too. I'll mimic this, you've done a fantatic job of creating a look I'm not fond of at all. The new Joker look in my opinion rather betrays the character. That said, like Sinner, I agree that you've done a great job of recreating it, in paticular I love the mouth and eyes (though they need to be smaller). The hair I love, but I think it looks too busy, in that no lego hairpiece would ever be that complicated. I think though great it seems a tad out of place, a bit simpler one would look even better I think. Great work overall, do you plan on a V.2? Batbrick Away! Quote

The new Joker look in my opinion rather betrays the character. I don't know. I don't mind the new Joker, as you know. Well, apart from the make-up thing, but the overall messiness isn't too bad. Anyway, onto the custom. It's another fantastic custom as usual Vader. I agree with Batbrick, the eyes and mouth could perhaps be a little smaller, but the look is still good, really capturing the TDK Joker. The hair is very nice, if more complicated than TLC would ever make, but like the face, captures the Joker's untidiness and madness. Quote

Yes, but the Joker has always been a rather clean and classy fellow hasn't he? I just don't like the way he looks, but everything else about him seems perfect so far. Naturally the movie will still rock, but the makeup will just be a missed opportunity for a faithful Joker to me. Batbrick Away! Quote
Vader Posted April 21, 2008 Author Posted April 21, 2008 Thanks for all the feedback guys, it's been very helpful. So with that in mind, here's an updated version. As you can see i have made the eyes alot smaller, these are now the same size as the offical fig version. I have also cleaned up the decal abit, as i felt the last one was abit dirty. Now as i was on a roll with the Joker i decided to have a shot at Jim Gordon and Ra's Al Ghul, first up is the Commish. I have tried to give him a look like in BB, though the hair colour is oof as i couldn't find a Brown flat top. And now for Ra's, i have tried to keep Ra's close to his look in BTAS. This i found hard as he has these sort of black bags around his eyes, i have kept them for this version but might lose them from the next one. The hair is still a work in progress, but i feel im getting there. And just for fun: So comments again please, all are welcome. Quote
Batbrick Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Fantastic work Vader, I love the look of Ra's especially (one of my favourite characters). What is TBA though? Anyway, I love his hairpiece, and I'm glad you based him off that version, good work on the suit too. The Commish looks great too, though I really think he needs his large bushy eyebrows to complete the effect. Awesome decal torso though. Do you plan on making more? Batbrick Away! Quote

Awesome decal torso though. Do you plan on making more? Batbrick Away! Well the commish is based on the BB one, so i tried to keep it more real. Though i might do a more bushy eyebows version. As for TBA, well in my rush to post i got it wrong as you have no doubt guessed it should read BTAS. As for others what do you want to see? Any pics would be helpfull too. I do intend to make a Hush though and perhaps a Mad Hatter. Quote
JimBee Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 whats BTAS? i know BB is batman begins, and TDK is the dark knight, but not this one... anyways, nice job. i like your old joker better, but the smaller eyes are more lego-ish. nice gordon, i really like that one, but the lips are a little strange and ras al gual is alright, but the hair and clothes are off from BB, even though you said BTAS, so... nice, im impressed!
