[MOC] 90's Space alternative builds

After coming out of my dark ages and rebuilding all my sets, I was a bit at a loss for what to do next. As nostalgia was my motivation and I’ve always liked alternative builds, I decided to take apart my space sets, grouped by faction, and try to remake them in something that would make the 10-year-old me proud. I enjoyed the restriction it imposes, like a big puzzle. I mention the sets I used in spoiler tags. More pictures in the link at the end.

For Blacktron II I kept the pods as they are so iconic. I found these sets were rather heavy on plates. Constructions include a mothership that can dispatch the pods to the planet surface where the other crafts await. All except the hover car (and robot) can attach one. There's a surface hopper that can lower its dinosaur-like tail for support when no pod is attached.

The main Space Police II build is a large vehicle with a scouting ship. The back can fold over and reveals a big cannon used to immobilze the baddies. Many big pieces compared to Blacktron II.

The Ice Planet 2002 sets are a bit of a throwback to classic space with many basic bricks, which at first I found somewhat limiting. But it did allow for a swooshable space ship! The launch base doubles as drilling station (a cover?). Vehicles include the tunnel boring "mole", the ice cutting "ostrich", which fits snugly between the robot's legs, a solar sail sled and one with a radar dish and fold out console.

Oh man, I love alt builds!

These look great. Did you combine all parts for each theme, or are these per set?

I especially like the Space Police rovers and the Blacktron drop ship!

Thanks! I combined the parts of all owned sets in a theme to have some more options. So maybe not strictly alternative builds nor multibuilds, but I don't know a better description for this concept where using extra parts is off limits. Happy to see others enjoy this too :)

They definitely qualify as alt-builds, and they are awesome. The Ice Planet diorama is my favorite, but it's easy to find things to love about all of them.
