This is based on the Pyro GX from the videogame Descent.

pyro1.jpg

Known issues....

The tips of tails are white, which doesnt match rest of scheme.

Wing angle is too shallow.

rear is a little too wide

also too weak (2studs holding on each wing...)

But its a nice little model, and looks instantly familar, I guess.

You remember playing that game right?

Someone go make some of the evil Robots in the same scale now... we can have a battle.

EDIT:

Final coloration:

Descent, you mean the pc-game that came out around '94 ? We played that via lan multiplayer on Uni. Was fun.

I really loved that game, a real 3D experience.

Well, looking at your moc, I think we are discussing the same game. The tail wings look kind of small, not sure if they are suppose to be that small. Other than that, great moc. I could imagine it would be fun building some of the enemy robots from that game.

I also played Descent 2 single player only. I remember the red robots, I think they were the mean ones with homing missiles.

Lol, the more I think back, the more I remember.

I just wish I knew what Descent was...

Found the cool intro video for Descent2 on youtube here

has a buncha good views of the ship.

Hmmh, video makes it painfully obvious that there are issues with my wing and body proportions. Well, I guess having a different model designation is a good excuse...

And, I take it back, after building a 'rainbow warrior' mock up using parts from my bins, its not as weak as I expected.

I'll probably add a few minor changes later based on this tho.

Thanks for looking.

Looks pretty good. The wings should be a bit larger though. I think changing the wedge plates on the top to 4x4 ones should do the trick.

I've been a huge fan of the Descent series for many years. I practically grew up on D2 in the mid 90s and still play the games every now and then. Unfortunately, the 6DOF style of gameplay pretty much died out after D3. :cry_sad: Interplay recently stated that they want to start work on a new Descent game (among other things) if they can get the funding for it, but it won't be happening right away given their current financial situation.

On a side note, the Warp Wing Fighter (6915) looks somewhat like the Pyro GX too.

Wow, just watched the Descent II intro. So many things I remember from that intro, the voices, scenes etc.

I remember trying out Descent III demo maybe 6 years ago (long after playing I and II), and it was like there was not the feel in the aircraft like in I and II. So I actually never got to play it. Would love to find I or II somewhere,

Thanks for the suggestion.

4*4 isnt in LDD, though I can do this:

The new plates also forced a color adjustment, which reduces the problem of white tipped tails.

So thats a plus.

Theres also some other issues, like the location of intakes, wing attachment point, area in front of engines.

But I might just go with this as yet another variation of the various Pyro series ships.

I´ve only played the game once when it came out so many many years ago. But still I instantly recognized the design! Very true to the original, or at least to the image I have in my memory :-D

That's a nice mini model,

I have a question. Is there anyway to change the video settings in Lego Digital Designer? I can't see black bricks at all.

I don't know the program, but you might have set your pc screen too dark.

To lighten the darks on your screen, you best adjust the gamma value. That should be a setting in your video card control panel.
