ks6349 Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Here in my country there are people selling on auction sites where they sell UNOPEN but the box is bad (but usually not broken) at 20-30% discounted price from the other with good outer box. Sometimes I hesitate if I should get those bad box I just wonder how and why they've made their box bad? Or is there any untold trick that they've made like stealing parts from the box or other sneaky possibilities? Quote
Lyichir Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Are you referring to sets with damaged boxes being sold at a discount? Usually that's not a case of the seller intentionally damaging the box, but rather a set that was damaged at retail or in storage or transport being sold for a lower price (since buyers generally will only pay full price for a set that is in good condition, box included). anothergol Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Yeah, when you got your Amazon order that's the original Lego box with just a large postage sticker on it, you can easily understand how a box can "go bad". Even the sticker alone will reduce the price btw. Quote
Johnny1360 Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Why does the box get damaged? Probably because it has to travel great distances from the factory to final sales point, often several and is handled by many people and machines that often don't give a rats megablocks about the package. Consequently it gets slammed around, dropped, smashed, kicked and run over, all part of shipping consequences. Then it gets put on a shelf and the consumer has a go at it again dropping smashing running over by shopping carts, little kids trying to rip it open. Really the question should be, how is it even possible to get a box in pristine condition. Surly anyone can see this, especially so if you have ever worked retail or at a shipping center, package delivery just google some of the things those guys do. I have often bought damaged boxes usually at a discount if the interior has been breached I always confirm all the contents are there before I pay for it especially if it is a returned product. If the bags have been opened I will only buy it at a very deep discount and have since it is almost always missing pieces usually minifigures. Quote
paul_delahaye Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Some of these large Technic boxes now are quite thin, and now there is no internal tray, alot of the structure of the box has been lost. I ordered 3 offroad Technic Cranes from Argos in the UK this year in their 3 for 2 offer and all the boxes looked like they had gone 10 rounds with Tyson. Quote
ks6349 Posted December 23, 2018 Author Posted December 23, 2018 (edited) Hi All In a conclusion, is it risky to buy discounted bad box set with a lot of wrinkles while NO big holes where it's possible to steal parts from the box? For bad box set, any possibilites of the seller stealing parts and re-sealing the box? Here we are doing face to face auction sites personal trade so all sales are final and cash and not even possible to see them again in case of items being stolen Edited December 23, 2018 by ks6349 Quote
Johnny1360 Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Of course it's possible, that is one of the reasons I only buy LEGO sets I can physically hold in my hands before shelling out cash. Fortunately I live in a fairly large city with dozens of places to buy LEGO within a five mile radius, also ride a bicycle so no traffic issues and I don't have to pay just to shop. Thankfully I also live in a bicycle friendly community, lots of bike trails. I have never ordered LEGO online just because I seem to be one of those people that is always getting screwed over and I just don't want to deal with the possible hassles with my hobby. Quote
